    Hi I am new and want to reduce my food bill I think that it is about £200 a month for 1 adult and 1 teenager.

    How much should I reduce it but at first? I do want it to be achievable. Any help would be great. Thanks

    Hi Moonflower and welcome,

    I am just off now, but didn't want to read and run.
    If you read the very first post on the first page by Zippychick, the quote that she has put in there is a great way to start, it explains saving receipts, shaving budgets etc.
    Don't try cutting down too much too quick, take things steady.
    Check out all the receipes that are posted on the first page and also the links to other threads.

    £6.42 spent in Mr S yesterday on a quesdillas kit, basics tissues, something else I can't remember and some chocolate croissants to tempt me into eating something as I felt odd all day.

    I have my last but one christmas cake in the oven and the fruit/brandy prepared for the last but I have run out of mixed spice:mad: I only need half a teaspoon as well but will have to go to Mr S to get some. I am already really late making my cakes and as this is the last free weekend I have between now and christmas the last 2 have to be finished today.

    Today I am also going to use up some of last year's mincemeat making christmas muffins. The recipe I have is for mini ones and I want to try making them much bigger so I am having a trial run today. My Mum loved these last year so if they work I will make some more on Friday to take down to heras we are off there for the weekend.

    In other news the 2 cakes I made for DH work for CiN raised £15 :T

  • After being away from the boards for a few months I've had sometime to post this morning

    I'm still sticking to the GC which I set myself each Month, and have usually come in under budget. I haven't declared since July so here's my update:
    August = £145.83 / £200
    September = £191.67 / £200
    October = £133.71 / £150

    My November GC is £150. I have spent £67.47 of that so far.

    Thanks to all who post on the thread for keeping me motivated even when I'm not here!

    prophecy_grrl - congratulations on becoming debt-free :T You're an inspiration to those of us who are getting there slowly but surely.

    Now, I'm adding an NSD for yesterday, and £9.23 from Thursday and Friday.

    I'm doing my best to resist doing a Mr S order before the end of the month - although it would be a pretty small one, so I'm sure I can put it off a while longer. It's just that I'm feeling so grotty this weekend that the idea of a delivery is quite alluring. I don't particularly want to have to leave the house, let alone lug stuff home.

    Still, the GC is a great motivator... to send Him Indoors out with a short, very specific shopping list and the right money ;)
    Haven't done the GC since February, but a glance at the Tower of Receipts tells me I really need to get back into it... and plenty of other Challenges besides. :o
