I'm afraid I've gone completely off the rails in my first month of trying..:(:(:( ...his_missus wrote: »Don't worry, I'm new to this too and went over my budget on the 11th. Still trying to find what suits me best, you'll get there :cheesy:
Don't despair, it usually takes a few months to get to budget, or in my case, anywhere near it
You're more aware of what you're spending now and that's a big step forward :T... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Just a very quick update since my last post and apologies but I havent had a chance to read thro everyones posts. Also trying to give up the Cigs and found sitting at the computer a time when I relatively chain smoked so been avoiding this and trying some knitting instead.
I have been sticking to my NSD attitude but needed to top up on fresh veg so got some Brussels, Peppers and Carrots plus I needed some bread so bought Basics Brown (yuk, yuk, yuk) def wont be buying that again - been forcing myself to use it up but it even tastes evil toasted (IMO) so anyway total spend of £2.24.
Will update my sig and go buy a better loaf of bread. Back to my knitting nowJan - June Grocery spends = £531.61

OOOhhhhh thanks I will have a peek!!!!:T
No problemIt is weird that it is not on this board really.
Recovering Spendaholic, that is a great haul. Well done missus :j. Wish our MrT did that, they hardly discount anything. I was in there today and they had Rump Steak, due out today, reduced from £6 to £5.50. It is on the shelf for 2 for £10 with a longer shelf life, looking a lot fresher  Go figure.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -
Need to help DS1 with meal plans, he is out of the house for work nearly 12 hours a day, so anything that requires a lot of prep and cooking is not ideal, but he can batch cook every other weekend, so that helps a lot.
I am going to use the Mega index and the GC recipes to help, plus the cheap family recipes site to help.
He loves trying new foods, both cooking and eating, so that helps a lot

He might like to get a slow cooker as well. He could prep the night before and then put in the SC in the morning before he heads off to work. If his kitchen isn't too warm he could get a timer and get it to come on about lunch time. He also could do extra so he has one for now and one for the freezer.
I picked up some boxes that look like the chinese takeawy boxes in Poundland and put my meals in them, labled with aSharpie pen. They are just the right portion size.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -
Today we had one of my recipe's that is already in the index
Bacon and Vegetable Risotto. I had leeks, sweet potato, courgette, onion and peas that needed using up.
This recipe is great because I prep it just before the school run and then when I come in I can put the SC on and it is ready for when they have got changed, emptied their lunchboxes and finished their homework and you don't have to stand there painstakingly adding more liquid. Just flick the switch and forget about it untill dinner timeBSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -
I finally caved in.... and had my first takeaway for nine months :eek::eek: it came to £6.30 which i will add to my total.
In my defence, Ive had a rubbish day, had to stay late at work, and i think im coming down with a cold.
Im pretty close to going over my target, however, I have just had my Mr. T coupons through, so thats an extra £16 this month! :j:j0 -
