Have 500g of purple carrots that I want to make into soup - how much stock should I allow and how best to blitz so you have soup and not mush ?!!

Just google a carrot soup recipe and even if you don't follow it exactly you could get an idea of the carrot to liquid ratio. ;) And never seen purple carrots hehe. Wow.
I've just done this for the first time (I don't use a huge amount of onions and invariably waste some:( as I don't get through them before they go bad) and have a wee tip for anyone trying it ..... put the bags into a tub with a lid on - it's amazing how much smell the onions still give off even once frozen!:)

So thats what I did wrong! Not only did my onions taint EVERYTHING in the freezer, they seemed to taste tainted too  threw out them all and didn't buy onions for ages since the smell was horrid and I had to scrub the freezer and use a packet of baking soda to get it out ... okay I did cut and freeze a massive bag I got free - 25? But still ...

Thank you as ever to Zippychick, Rosieben and Helen Jelly for running the thread.
Could you put me down for£380 again for November please.
I'm not carrying over my surplus from Oct this month which is a bit naughty as I've sneaked in a small delivery today as I'd started running out of things. Hmmm... OK to be honest I will start November today!

Good luck to everybody for November.

    Hi all,
I had a slow walk over to the shops yesterday with my DD (she is keeping me in check she says )and bought only what I needed and have nothing now to buy for several days so I can close down my October account in the black .Not a lot, but anything is worth it. I think.I have spent from my £100.00 food purse £92.18 and have £7.82 left over to go into the holiday fund for next year:j:j
Start again next Tuesday with £100.00 for November.Hopefully will be able to stick inside the budget.I am running down my freezer stores so I can defrost before Christmas so thats helping out a lot ,plus a bit of an overhaul on my tinned food stock cupboards help as well.I did have a haul of 10 tins of Baxters soup that I had been given and I'm pleased to say that they were finally finished up on Friday .They were very nice and as they were freebies nicer still but I still prefer my HM stuff. Some time next week i will have a good search for some seasonable veg to make a vat or two for lunches during November
Good luck to you all if your just starting the challenge for the first time you will get lots of support here .Its not only about making your money streeetch or your food supplies its also about the satisfaction you derive from making the most of what you have in store before buying more. After all you bought it in the first place to eat.I seem to have a lot of flat wraps in the freezer so lunches this week will centre around those to get them used up I think I bought them when they were on a 2 for 1 deal ages ago.So as I have a good amount of salad in the fridge its going to be a wrap-a-day week to use some of them up.:rotfl:My eldest DD donated a bag of surplus baking potato's yesterday as well so a few Jacket spuds will be on the menus for me.I am hoping not to bin a single scrap of food this month as 8 weeks today is Christmas Day so the less I can spend this month the better:D

First challenge starting tomorrow, setting myself a whopping budget of $40 no pound sign sorry!

This is mostly for myself, OH will be away for most of the month.

Hoping this will see me cut down on the booze and the fags, eat more fruit and veg and get some exercise!

A side challenge is to not step foot in a supermarket - markets, hole in the wall jobbys and street vendors only!

I'm not a breakfast person and I can gorge myself for free at work during lunch so this budget will not be just for groceries but for total spending for the month

I'd like to sign up this month as it'll be tight one before Christmas. We're a family of 5 (with 2 teenagers) and the budget includes washing stuff and toiletries. I'm going to go for 400€ and see where that gets us. I have a few bits in the freezer and the cupboards are quite full.
Thanks to all the folk that organise the thread
