Android Handsets...

So, thegoodman, not sure I can figure this out from all your posts, just what is your favourite phone?
I have looked into the phones and the base on what I have found it is:
Android:
Good phone if you like hacking. Not all phones work the same, many come with the manufacture software added on the top of the OS. Not all apps work with all phones, many size of screens. The OS update not avialable for all phones. You may need to wait 6 months for the update for your phone so some new apps may not work. Due to open source need virus checker. Need to check apps before installing them as some may have virus. Good collection of apps however too many app stores so may need to have more than one account.
Windows Phone:
Nice easy to use OS. Need more apps. OS Update limited. No need for virus check as all apps are checked before you can install them. All phones work the same.
Iphone:
Easy to use. All apps work with all phones (excluding very old phones), OS update available to all devices. Very, very good collection of apps. No need for virus check as all apps are checked before you install them. All phones work the same.
Based on the above inforamtion I pefer iphone. Windows phone 2nd. Android need to improve the functions such as the user should not need to worry about virus. All apps work with all phones, the OS update should be avialabe at the same time so all new apps work. Some people will find the open source the reason to buy others want easy of use.0 -

I guess you don't do irony then?;)0 -
Ive owned all 3 in last 3 months:
Android:
Still in infancy, the OS should be well more than it has become by now but Google are letting independent developers do the leg work after buying the Android OS...poor show Google after managing to spend loads on Motorola a few million would have made a good Android by now. Another few years perhaps....
Windows Phone 7:
VERY nice & easy to use OS. Has more apps than Google had after its first year and just behind apple by 2 months.
1st OS Update after a year -7.5 Mango just released. You can force it through Zune (Windows iTunes - and much MUCH better)
Microsoft stopped the old way of manufacturer changing the OS to keep it same/same for easy movement between manufacturers & models like Orange UK TRY to do, PLUS 1 for that Microsoft.
The alphabetical list of apps one swipe left from the homescreen is far superior to searching by text input or looking for apps when you have alot installed (a Android & Apple failure). 1 downfall YOU must use a UK based hotmail/passport/live ID at WP7 set up as if you dont Zune does not work, and major problems can happen with usertag for Zune due to licencing country to country, this usertag is also for XBox on your WP7 aswell.
Internal Micro SD is upgradeable to 32GB on most models but can invalidate warranty - some networks/manufacturers will do it though & you keep warranty.
iPhone:
Easy to use. All apps will NOT work with all phones & the recent iOS5 update NOT available to all models (2G & 3G).
Very, very good collection of apps that are not easy to find at times and you end up using the search input function when you have that many installed. OS updates were lacklustre till iOS4, stability even on iOS5 and apps crashing is a regular occurance, the amount of updates apps get is annoying - somethimes they solve a app problem but also updated apps can cause more crashes/bugs ! That to me is poor, Android is better than Apple at apps not crashing/bugs. I would have problems with apps 2/3 times a day until the last iOS4 roll out - iOS5 is worse than iOS4 ever was as load of developers have to iron out bugs. Like Nokia was a few years back I felt like a beta tester for Apple (as Android by its very Google default is)
Opinion:
First: Windows Phone 7 - a clear winner, late to the game but massively better operating system & ease of use by a long shot. Of the 3 OS it does not jam/slow down as much (near at all).
Second: iPhone -3GS and above ONLY for iOS5, hardware really is beaten by most manufacturers on Android or WP7. OS can get laggy/slow compared to WP7 whizzing by like a bullet train/british train comparision, really closed down OS - Android & Microsoft are much more flexible. Apps seem more bugged and updated of all 3 OS.
Third Android - Bugs/faults/slowdowns/jamming are as bad as Apple were until iOS4, a few more years, Oct 2013 I may try again when my WP7 contract is up, unless iPhone pull a great handset - 4S was a complete poo even to upgrade from 3GS.
Handsets tried in last 3 months.
WP7 - HTC Mozart.
iPhone - 3GS, 4, 4S
Android - HTC's - Wildfire, Wildfire S, Desire HD then Samsung Galaxy II (feels like a toy & HTC Mozart screen is defo better - like iPhone the Samsung Super AMOLED seems like marketing bull**** to me.
Most recent tried(& now owned): HTC Mozart on Mango 7.5 update.
ALL phones tested for at least two days with loads of apps installed.SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe0 -

any thoughts on the sony ericsson xperia play?
OP have a look on Techradar or CNET for reviews of the xperia play0 -

"Iphone users use the phone, Android uses go on about how their phone is better than iPhone"
You know why that statement is wrong? As you are one contributer constantly posting about what the other OS systems do or may not do, why are you worried about what android or windows may or may not do? Sometimes it is wiser to adopt a selfish attitude (just worry about what you have, and let others worry about what they have).
As many iphone users upgrade to ......another iphone.
I don't recall many or any posts suggesting the android is a better OS, other than it is better for the user's individual requirments, you always seem to forget that reasons most users do not have an iphone is not necessarily because they cannot afford it, it maybe simply they do not provide what a user wants from a handset right now.0 -

All handsets make and recieve calls, the next bit then is what do you use the extra facility for? eg gaming, camera, music player, email host etc.
So it is not so straight forward to rank handsets, as individual handsets suit individual needs and wants.
For my work, the HTC wildfire suits admirably , some colleagues are given iphones, for my own personal use I'm now using the Experia Ray moving from an SE Satio.
As you mention the Play, I suspect the priority is gaming and it is on this aspect that you compare it to other handsets in the similar price range (not that a more expensive one is going to prove any better).0 -

Where does Apple state you are in fact a beta tester ?
They dont....
If you want a mature stable OS and apps & touchscreen WP7 ALL the way. Microsoft knew they had to deliver, they did, and for all the youth of WP7 it surpasses Android & Apple.SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... For everyone else:
Users want todo thinks quickly.....personal handset preferences really comes a second to that, ask any buyer to go try Android, Apple & WP7 for ten mins each.... they will come back with WP7 being quickest & most user friendly.
I tried my first Android and WP7 in March, owning a 3GS at the time...WP7 came out top - speed, user friendly - and the recent WP7.5 Mango just ups the game.
There is no-one like Microsoft for mobile OS just now, and I cant wait till there is because that means WP8 will be out
iPhone is marketing driven. EXCLUSIVE - meh ! its far from the most impressive specs & never has been (well maybe USA where it was the first real data device) the screen was its main selling point, my HTC Touch 3G on Windows Mobile 6.1/6.5 had better functionality but a poor plastic screen.
Android & WP7's many manufacturers hold better specs and just as sexy models since they followed Apple and put glass screens in.
I would not iphone it again until NFC, UMA, removeable battery (or powerful) and more user themes and layout settings are available. For me iPhone was about the screen - something I think the Samsung flagship Galaxy SII lets itself down on - it just feels flimsy & breakable compared to all the touchscreen phones I've used in 2011.SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... It's just ridiculous to hijack this thread for promoting/discussing iPhones and Windows phones.
The OP has specifically asked about android and Xperia Play.0
