Thanks for sharing the recipe and tips @squirrelgirl
A quick question can you freeze homemade almond milk?

I've decided that as it's a 3 day weekend, I'm going to make banana blossom 'fish' and chips
I was going to mention banana blossom as that is another thing that has become very popular like jackfruit. Tell us what it is like if you make it!

I had a Bird's eye vegan burger for lunch with a big salad. I made a dressing with vegan mayo, apple cider vinegar, garlic powder, onion powder and a little bit of ketchup and mustard.

I have red onions, half a cauliflower and lots of carrots so I was thinking of making a coconut milk curry tonight although it is obviously not the weather for it!

Banana blossom sounds really interesting, I am going to look for it here fresh. I think that I have seen it in the markets at times, but didn't know what it was, of course it could have been something else. I had to google to see pics. I've heard about jackfruit, but not seen it at all. It's on my list for trying when back in UK, or if it does come here, providing it's not stupid prices, as is invariably the case with some imports. Will await your thoughts on it Squirrelgirl.

It's quite literally the flower that the banana plant grows! The bananas grow on the stalk and the flower is at the end 😉 you can buy fresh ones and prepare them but I've bought tins - apparently it has the texture of white fish (you add nori to the batter and/or blossom to get the taste of the sea 😉)
Once I've tried it and know more about how it tastes and handles, I'll be looking for additional ways to use it - hopefully it won't be hideous!! 😂
Where on earth do you buy banana blossom?
Never seen it in the Co-op! 😂

I got mine (tins) from Suma Pyxis - I've seen it in health food shops previously but never in a supermarket 🤔 However, as I frequent supermarkets about as much as I do nightclubs, I'm not a lot of help!! 😂

  • They're a vegetarian wholesale cooperative - there are minimum order costs for free delivery and if you have access to a health food shop within a certain distance they don't accept you as a private customer. I don't think that they are accepting new customers at the moment- I know that they have had issues with getting orders sorted for their current ones 😔 - if they can't/won't set you up an account (or if you don't want to buy in bulk) health food shops and online sellers carry a lot of their stuff (including banana blossom 😉)

Have had a tin of jackfruit in the cupboard for ages so have decided to use it today to make a curry for dinner.  No idea what it's like as never had it before!  Someone gave it to me at my Slimming World group several months ago as she didn't fancy it!

Unfortunately neither DH nor I liked the jackfruit.  Bit annoying really as it would have been something I could have added to our menu plan from time to time.

Pyxis, Asda appear to sell banana blossom, it's on their website anyway. https://groceries.asda.com/product/tinned-fruit/asda-banana-blossom-in-water/1000128213080

Absolutely no cooking, or anything at all done here for the past couple of days. Heat really got to me and been feeling rather ill. Feeling much better today, but leaving things until tomorrow when temp is supposed to revert back to seasonal normal. Can't wait!

Apologies in advance, my Thanks button has disappeared.

    Thank you!
Yes, no thanks button. Strange. There isn’t one in The Arms or Discussion Time, and never has been since the new format started, but I thought they were leaving it in other parts of the forum.

It might be temporary while they are working on glitches.
