Yeah basically if it's shiny it's profit l possible it's not vegan. It's hard to tell because some producers do use carnuba wax and that's vegan. I try and err on the side of caution though and stay away from anything waxed0

I make a Moroccan lemon & potato casserole kacie but serve the stock as a soup and the potatoes as a side dish;) I'll pop the recipe up later
I always get unwaxed fruit - it's one of the things that really annoyed me when I first looked into food production and sale...who thought that shellac on fruit was a good idea!!
The ravioli was lush - I did sage butter; olive and sun dried tomato (added some feta to a few, some bacon to others and both to some); feta, bacon and pimento; feta and pimento; feta and bacon - all were perfect and even my ds who doesn't do olives or tomatoes went for it!
Got plenty of shapes popped in the dehydrator too so should have enough to keep us going for a while0 -
Sorry, got distracted and forgot to put up the recipe for the morroccan lemon and potato casserole! :rotfl:
3fl oz olive oil
2 large onions chopped
1 head garlic chopped
1tsp ground cumin
1tsp ground coriander
2 green chillies seeded & chopped
2lb potatoes peeled & sliced
Zest & juice of 3 lemons
1.5 pts veg stock
Heat the oil in a large pan throw in the onions garlic & spices and saute for a few mins. Add the potatoes, stock, lemon zest and juice and bring to the boil. Reduce heat and simmer gently until the potatoes are cooked (about 20mins)
I drain off the liquid for soup and serve potatoes separately but the choice is yours!
Going to have a month living out of the cupboards and freezer as I have a large expense to meet earlier than I expected so I'm on a drive to reduce my grocery budget to the bare minimum- I think that I can probably do it with £15 per week on fresh stuff so some wierd and wonderful stuff ahead!!! :rotfl:0 -
Ethiopian lentils tonight for dinner - quick, cheap and blows my face off!! :rotfl: I normally have this with injera but haven't made any so will serve with hm flatbreads, hm hommous and homegrown apple & beetroot salad
Ingredients are as follows...
Red lentils, onions, berbere spice mix, stock
Heat the spice in a dry pan till fragrant, tip out and crush. Add some oil and chopped onion, cook for a couple of minutes until soft, add the spice and stir until coated. Add lentils and stir until coated. Add stock, stir and bring to the boil. Reduce heat and simmer until lentils are tender (approx 25-30 mins)0 -
This thread is amazing, I look forward to reading it in full and finding lots of new recipes! I'm definitely guilty of buying great store cupboard items and not using them.
I've been vegan for years, cutting out dairy first in my teens because of a nasty intolerance before going veggie and then vegan. I love how popular it's becoming now, with more awareness about animal rights and environmental impact and more products catered to a vegan diet.
Me and my OH work a lot and often grabbing something quick out of the freezer is our go-to but we both want to make healthier changes, both physically and financially. We'll be making more effort for better food and less waste from now on!Mortgage - £23,500 remaining

I am trying to run down my freezer at the moment as it is groaning with food!
I probably didn't help with my recent Asda order, thinking about it.
Then I want to think about replenishing my store cupboard for winter!:AI've been vegan for years, cutting out dairy first in my teens because of a nasty intolerance before going veggie and then vegan. I met up with some vegan friends in the last month and we were all saying the same thing!
I ordered from Asda the other day and it came up with 16 pages of vegan stuff when I typed in vegan.:) It's unbelievable how much it has changed since I first went vegan. It's very trendy to be vegan now.:rotfl:0 -

Eating out is so much easier now! :rotfl:
I'll be doing a lot of batch cooking this month I think. So the freezer is full of healthy homemade food instead. Will try not to buy anything ready made.
I was never very impressed with Asda's choice or labelling, they must have upped their game! It's been a while since I shopped there though, we have two other supermarkets closer to us.Mortgage - £23,500 remaining

I've just had an almighty pantry restock from Tesco so will try and make use of that over the next few weeks. I feel like it's full enough to prepare us for the apocalypse haha. Expecting a baby at the end of November, so planning on getting lots of batch cooking done prior to his arrival!0

They really have!
My friend sent me a link to an article the other day saying about how the supermarkets are in fierce competition to attract so called flexitarians who are very interested in vegan products. Good for people like us anyway.:T2025 GOALS
