Tenants Broken Oven

Hi all
Tenant phoned at 4.30pm today to say they couldnt get oven to work. Gas fitter attended at 5.30 and has ordered a new part which should be here within the next day or two.
Tenant has since phoned me and said that their kids wont eat anything except nuggets and the like and what should they do about feeding the kids. I suggested microwave or hob meals but he said they wont eat that, only stuff that goes in the oven or under grill and it will cost £15 a day to eat out at mc d's until its fixed.
He hasnt said he wants me to pay this specifically but has made damn sure that i got what he was getting at without him actually saying it.
Where do i stand on this? Ive gone to best efforts to fix the oven and cant do it any quicker than when the parts arrive. Do i have to pay for them to eat out or order in take aways?

Ignore. Just fix the oven.
Or send the tenant a leaflet (GP's surgery?) on healthy eating.0 -
You're liable to get the oven fixed reasonably quickly - unless the tenants really broke it, in which case they are liable. You're not liable for anything else.
BTW, these tenants - are you sure they are reasonable people you really want to let to?No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
They've been in 18 months and are generally quiet and pay their rent on time.:jProud mummy to a beautiful baby girl born 22/12/11 :j0

Just because their children will only eat chicken nuggets isn't your fault.
Your responsibility is to fix the oven. You had an engineer with them in an hour, problem found, part ordered and it should be fixed within a day or two. There are not many landlords who act that quick I'm sure.
How would they feed the children in the case of a power cut?£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4

You can deep fry or shallow fry nuggets and chips. If the hob works, a cookery lesson might be in order.
I've even been known to do fish fingers in the toaster in a toaster bag. So I expect you can do nuggets in a toaster bag too.
They also make microwave chips."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0 -
Wow so many things they can eat that don't require an oven.
Its the tenants poor parenting skills that have resulted in this problem, therefore its their problem. You are doing everything you can to arrange repairs in a reasonable time.0 -
Oven broke - you had someone attend quickly - professional opinion says oven requires a part.
As there are other cooking facilities available they do not have any real cause for complaint unless the "fix" goes beyond a couple of weeks. Would a judge consider this delay reasonable? Yes, more reasonable than the demands of an adult that can only feed their kids chicken nuggets and finds it impossible to cook nourishing meals on a hob and with the help of a microwave.
You could - if you really do feel sorry for them - buy one of those worktop halogen ovens (Robert Dyas has them quite cheap at the moment and Costco has them for £30). Buying one of these would be cheaper than paying compo and your tenant will definitely be able to cremate nuggets in it.
Here's one from Argos:

No. As Eton said above, if you pander to them over this there'll expect it every time.Tiddlywinks wrote: »You could - if you really do feel sorry for them - buy one of those worktop halogen ovens (Robert Dyas has them quite cheap at the moment and Costco has them for £30).
