Situations change, obedience classes cost money, the government does not give out money to owners to discipline their dogs, or give out doggy DLA to clumsy and naughty dogs either.

Dog lovers are the pits, never clean up their dog poo, instead drag their doggy along trying to ignore the trail of poop its left behind purely to avoid cleaning it up. And this thread shows they are all extremely judgemental too.

Some people have a child and give them up for adoption, so why is it different for a bloody dog.

Dogs are living creatures who depend on humans, a dog is for life, it's not fair to get rid just because a new person comes into a family, the dog needs to be taught how to behave around this child. The dog doesn't know the child is fragile, you have to teach him how to be calm.

I dont think anyone thinks OP shouldnt put his daughter first. The difference of opionion is down to the fact that there hasnt been an incident but there MIGHT be one.

The dog might knock kidders over while running past.

There is no mention of any agressive behavior at all (which of course would be perfectly reasonable to remove the dog from the home). It just sounds to be like they want shut of the dog, and the fact that it MIGHT knock over the child makes them feel better about 'rehoming' a 6 year old dog.

Sorry for all the rude people who suggest you owe your dog & your child equal loyalty:mad: .

It's a shame more people didn't realise that the dog they have IS NOT suitable for a family set up & we might not have so many children savaged by dogs.

If you don't feel it will work, then it won't work no matter what people say or how they say it.

I would try animal charities. I help out sometimes for the cats protection league & they are very careful about ensuring good homes for cats they place.

At least you are talking about rehoming him, I cring when I read ads selling family pets people have had for x amount of years.

I can't forsee any suituation EVER which would make me need to part company with my cat (persian)
, but to sell him would feel like blood money:eek:

Keep trying with the local animal charities, I'm sure you will find one which can help.

And if the pregnancy was unplanned and a person cannot afford both a dog and a new baby then what? Its still dreadful that the dog would be the one to be rehoused? Sorry but Pets are not humans no matter what an owner thinks and finding a suitable, comfy home for a pet wins over a child every time. Everyone was offering nice advice until this Hay person got on board and seemed to think it was alright to belittle the OP with comments like this
Ermmm not how it works sorry.

    and
Sorry to sound harsh but there doesn't seem to have been a particular amount of effort in "integrating" the two in this case

It is amazing that this person drew the above conclusion from a small post and turned it into an accusation at the OP. Obviously the rest of us have not realised that the way it does work is this hay persons way. Well we must all be dumb! I may be a newbie to this site but there is debating and then there is being just stupidly rude. There is always a MY WAY IS THE CORRECT WAY type of poster at each site and unfortunately for the OP she seems to have stumbled across it. No doubt this pain in the !!!! opinionated person is the same at every site he/she goes to and is more than likely disliked.

  • To all those who are against the OP's decision to rehome their dog, i don't see any of you offering the dog a loving home.

So are ants, but sadly I evicted them from my property last summer, and was by inhumane ways too, so sue me lmao.

OP IWould also consult your vets they often know of many foster homes for pets where they will recieve love and care and they will socialise more with other doggies

And the same people think it's OK to have small children along with a Rottweiler and a Bull Terrier, (mentioned in a former post), both strong aggressive breeds proved to be unreliable with children.

    Beats me.

Yes that really worries me, dogs that can tear little ones like a rag doll in seconds, no matter how tame they are, there is always a risk and like it is going to refrain just cos it's owner steps in. Dogs and kids don't mix, especially not ones that are dangerous and more powerful than the owner.
