I always take some of the packets of 'pasta n sauce' they are quick, cheap n easy to cook!
  • I actually lived in a caravan for just over a year (don't laugh!) and the best option is to stick to recipes that only use 1 pan.
    Good cheapy ones are:
Pasta - just cook a load of pasta, drain then chuck in a tin of tuna & a tin of chopped tomatoes, add some oregano or your favourite herbs, some salt & pepper, warm through stirring over a low heat & voila! Serve with grated cheese if you like.
Baked popatoes are a definite winner - you can do them in the microwave (then finish off in the oven for 1/2 hour is you have one) & serve with grated cheese & baked beans.
Risotto is fab for one pan cooking and can be done on a shoestring- various recipes are available. It's a little time consuming but you can put anything in a risotto from chicken to bacon & peas!
    Good luck!

We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.

we stayed at a haven caravan a few months ago. don't know what rating caravan your in but we had silver( not sure if gold or lower rating have different kitchen ware) and we had virtually no baking ware. had 2 saucespans and 1 frying pan. but there was a local asda who sold baking trays for 70p odd. also take a can opener as the one in our caravan didn't work. so just bare this in mind.

but i cooked meals most evening/lunch and didn't have a prob. once i had bought a couple of things. so maybe packa baking tray or a dish if u think ur need it.

enjoy ur holiday and have fun.

    Hi All,

We are off on a weeks holiday to Haven ( marton mere ) in the easter break and it's going to be quite low budget so I was wondering if anyone could help me plan a menu for a week for 2 adults 2 children.

We are travelling by train, so won't be able to take much with us. We are hoping there is a tesco or asda nearby so we won't have to spend much at the shop on site.

Breakfasts will be cereal / toast, but am not really sure what else to be making for lunch and dinner. As I am on holiday, I don't want to be cooking for ages, and also don't want lots of washing up.

    Any ideas gratefuly received :D

No help with the menu planning as i am sure lots will help, but i have been to marton mere and there is a huge asda and tesco very close buy! tesco am i 100% sure of beacsue we went there a lot.
    Grocery Challenge. £400. - £35.22 + £19.80 + £109.01 = £164.03
    Other spends (Clothes Luxuries etc)£11.97 + £1.19 + £7.36 + £69.00 + £38.50 + £5.50 + £23.00 +£2.00 = £158.52:shocked::sad:
  • Hi All,

Thanks for some great suggestions. I only booked the holiday last week so don't really have lots of spending money.

I know we will have a great time anyway and I would much rather eat food I will cook from scratch than eat out all the time which will cost a fortune and will be nowhere as nice as my cooking :) .

It is a silver caravan I have booked so I will bear in mind what you have said JCR16, about lack of cooking utensils.

Pink-winged, great idea about getting a shop delivered, but I won't know what caravan I have been allocated until I get there so that rules that one out.

I will make a meal plan before I go, and buy what food and booze we will need from the local asda or tescos to do for the week. We probably won't eat in the caravan at every meal, but it will be best to get it all at the beginning of the week so we won't need to buy anything from the overpriced supermarket on site ;) . We will also probably sneak some vodka or something into the bar a night if we can ( shhh don't tell no one :rotfl: )

    Thank you again :)

We often go caravanning ... sausage casserole always goes down well served with pasta / rice / couscous
1 onion, 1 pack sausages, 2 carrots, peas, 2 courgettes, tin of tomatoes... and a stock cube
Only one pan needed for the casserole
    That's Numberwang!
