Op as has been said. PayPal can be recalled for up to six months after payment.

To protect against it you need

    (1) full online tracking with signature for items over £150, posted within 7 days of payment, to the address on the Paypal payment (nowhere else). This gives you protection for an 'item not received claim'. Nothing else will do.

    (2) a certificate of posting will defend against a Paypal/bank chargeback. Both tracking details and receipts must be kept for 180 days.

Or you take the easy option of cash.

This is an obvious scam- they might as well have written 'I am going to scam you please hand over your item and walk away).

Hopefully you didn't allow collection last night and assuming you still have the item safe if you think there is the vaguest chance this is a genuine buyer and don't want to risk a neg, send ti fully tracked and with the correct amount of insurance to the address on paypal that it says it is 'OK to send to'.
To me this is so obviously a scam that I would risk the neg and tell buyer that you will refund their money and expect them to bring cash (at your convenience) .

    Any update OP?.
  • Hi all,

Thanks so much for all the advice and helpful comments I've received so far. I booked a courier (tracked and signed service) early this morning and they picked up this afternoon - delivery should be tomorrow. It's been sent to the address given on paypal and insurance covers up to £200. I've taken the hit on postage charges (I was stupid agreeing to collection in person anyhow). I've kept the buyer informed at every step and hopefully everything should go well. I will let you know otherwise!

I've learned from this experience and will not make the same mistake again, that's for sure!:o. Thanks again everyone.
