Thanks for my number - helps to know there is help out there and a good thick head helps dull the pain sometimes - currently working towards one.

Am currently trawling the internet looking for somewhere to live - landlady just given us notice to quit as a result of excessive damp in our house and she says she can't afford to do the work so is going to sell - AGHHHHH was I really that bad in a past life? - just when you start to get some semblance of control, someone else p@>>*s on your strawberries.

On top of that eldest son turned 13 today and I get the spots - that really is just not fair - will stop now - just feeling sorry for myself

Not sure if I'm posting this in the right place....so please forgive me if I'm in the wrong thread.

I've eventualy realised I can't bury my head in the sand any longer!!!

I haven't opened any post for over 8 months, don't answer the door or the telephone. I'm not sleeping properly and constantly break down in floods of tears. I suppose the main reason it has got so drastic is because of the fear of the unknown & the humiliation of the situation.

I spoke to a 'debt counsellor' approx 9 months ago and my estimated debts at the time were £24K, I'm guessing that has probably gone up by now due to further charges etc. I spoke to the same guy just over two weeks ago and he did a quick SoA on the telephone and estimated that my disposable income currently stands at £33 per month (mainly due to having to pay £20 per week to British Gas arrears & £20 to baliffs for this years council tax). He advised that £33 was far too little to consider an IVA and that bankruptcy was my only real option.

I've mulled it over for a couple of weeks now and simply can't go on living like so have decided I need to bite the bullet & file for banruptcy.....jeeeezzzz can't believe I've actually said it!!!

Now I've made the decision I really don't know where to start. I've registered at insolvency.gov and started to fill the form in, I am intending to spend tonight putting everything I can onto eBay to try to raise the court costs and have emailed my local court to ask how I go about making an appointment.

Suppose my real questions will be once I go back to filling the form in....wondering what to put where etc. For now, please can I join your club & is it ok to post questions when I come across them?

    Thanks

    Hi Red,

Welcome to the club, Mike is the guy with the numbers and he'll be in touch with you when he logs on. You're probably better posting this as a thread in it's own right and then all responses will be relevant to your questions, and it has a higher profile.

You'll certainly find all the answers to your questions on this forum.

    Best regards

    Richard

Well done for getting to this stage, Red. You will find support all the way through the process here but as Rich says, specific info you need is probably better as a thread in its own right.

I suggest that you get in touch with your debt advisor again or one of the advice agencies to guide you through the finer points. The Judge will ask if you have taken professional advice and may say something if you did it some time ago and not in the run up to the hearing.

Try and relax a bit, you have taken the hardest step by realising your predicament and coming here.
    Best of luck

Co-op Cashminder account is the one I chose.

It's a VISA ELECTRON account with no overdraft facility but acts like a switch card so you can use it to buy things so long as there is money in your account.

You can also access your account on-line and set up direct debits and standing orders.

It also allows you to pay money in at post offices.

You can transfer money from one coop account to another coop account instantly say if your wife has an account as well.

In case you still have some money coming into your existing account you can make application for 1st right of appropriation which means that you specify to the bank certain payments, bills that need paying and any money going into the account i.e salary/wage is 'earmarked' for the purpose of paying those bills.

This stops the bank freezing any money in your account.

  • the insolvency office mentioned we should open an account with the nationwide, they will have bankrupt customers,as we are having problems with RBS, the insolvency office has emailed them but the bank is still being a pain,"no we havent had anything from the insolvency office " so our money is still frozen, will have to go to the bank today to try to sort it out,,, and keep my cool
