laptop problem - please help!

First thanks in advance for any help, and second please go easy as I am not very techie :o I have two problems with my laptop (Samsung running win 7) 1) the left click on the bar has stopped working which means I can't 'drag and drop' or highlight, or move a window on the screen. Thanks, I do back up to my portable hard-drive, and most of my important stuff is also on my netbook - but I tend only to back up every couple of months or so, usually if I am going to be in hospital, but I suppose I should really do it every week.
