because the default save filepath will be to the users folder, located on your C: drive. If you Save As, you can in future save to any location you want, including the newly-created folders on your D: drive ;)
    ......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D
  • I still dont understand why all this stuff is being saved to the c drive when the larger d drive is practically empty, though :o

    That's because computers are stupid.

Is your machine running better now?

Yes, sorry I had done it before I read your later instructions but no harm done as I haven't actually deleted anything yet!

Thanks for all the advice - I have to go out now, but I will follow your instructions to the letter when I get back!

You actually have only one physical drive, C and D are just partitions of the one single drive. Which is why it's essential that you maintain your back up on the external drive. In the event of drive failure (which eventually happens sooner or later), you will lose everything on both the C and D drive.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Nothing wrong with moving the folders to D: as long as you do it right. It also stops you having to continually move things when the documents / pictures / music fills up again (as the default save location is C: ).

In addition, if you have a problem later on with C: (say a virus), you can completely reinstall windows on the C partition and not even have to worry about backing up the stuff on D (although you should if you can just in case).

Folder relocation is a common practice to aid with reimaging machines.

Navigate to C:\Users\[username] and on each of the folders you want to move, right click on them and choose "location"

It will say something like "C:\users\[username]\Documents" change this to "D:\[username]\Documents". Repeat the same for Music/pictures/Favourites/Videos (should probably cover all you need to worry about). Accept any prompts with "OK". It will do all the moving for you and any future created documents / music / picutres, etc will automatically get saved to D:

    Good thinking.

    NOW he tells me!!! :p:D

I'll pass on that one for now - I seem to have managed to move all the contents of my pictures and documents folders. In my music I only moved the amazon MP3 file as the itunes file looked very complicated so I left it where it is as I was afraid of deleting something important...

Anyway, my laptop is now running smoothly again, so thanks peeps, I owe you one

    :T :T :T :T

Not a problem. Perhaps you don't want to change things too much.
As aforementioned, don't forget to make regular backups to an external source.
