Stand your ground, he inspected car. He has no rights to any refund what so ever.

Private sale. Buyer viewed the car after the auction and before paying.

No way it will get to court.

I'd ignore the emails and forget about it.

    Not true.

Remember the infamous caravan thread from a couple of years ago? (deleted now unfortunately)

The more you detail the stranger this chap seems.
He threatens court action, he hasn't asked for a refund or a return, just what does he want???????

A private sale has to comply with whatever regulation it is regarding being "as described"
Ok, you got the mileage wrong but discussed and re described this with the buyer, you put it in print, just what is this guy on??

Just how much money are we talking here?, and did it involve paypal ref payment?. (sorry if I've missed those facts)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

    Gemma,

The law with private sales is that the vehicle must be as described. From what I have read you described the car correctly in the listing with the exception of the odometer reading which was 10k out. When you had the opportunity to do so you informed the purchaser that an error had been made and informed them of the correct reading.

After inspecting the car and having knowledge of the accurate mileage they agreed to buy.

Consequently they do not have any comeback and, in law, they would be unable to reject the vehicle.

I would respond to them, via an e bay message, and politely state the facts, i.e. they inspected the car and were informed of the error with the mileage before they agreed to buy, and indicate that you will not be compensating them or taking the car back.

As someone else has said, the mileage on an older car isn't as important as condition and the difference in price with a 10k difference wouldn't be significant in any case.

I would think it unlikely that anyone would go to court when so little money is involved as compensation would be for any difference in price with a car that had done the lower mileage.

Without putting too many details...a 9 year old basic economy hatchback...so very little! They paid cash.

Thank you for this sound advice. This is exactly what I've done and have yet to receive a reply.

No i dont. And i'm trying to think how anything relating to a caravan would map to a mileage discrepancy on a car?

Buyer signed the paperwork saying the correct mileage. Cant see how he can therefore complain?

I was also going to say to write to them stating that you are sorry they are unhappy but as discussed they knew you had made an error with the mileage - in the hope that they will respond confirming they know you had that conversation. That in writing would be good.
