Really sorry for your loss hun, and shame on the unsympathetic person on here:mad:
Is there no way you can get a crisis loan form the dwp?not sure if they still do them:o
They wont pay out a crisis loan as you need to be in an emergency for this. A community care grant will pay out, from Direct Gov website:
you need help with expenses such as visiting someone who is ill, or to attend a relative's funeral
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndBenefits/BenefitsTaxCreditsAndOtherSupport/Caringforsomeone/DG_10018921
The form can be downloaded from the above link, but I reccomend going into local job centre, filling out form and getting them to send internally, will be looked at quicker and less chance of it getting lost!!Ideas, help and advice always welcome, judgements and assumptions are not!!:happyhearMarrying my Mr Perfect 2013

There may not be any relatives in the area, in fact her father may not even have a home she could stay at, he could of been in a hostel, a nursing home, lived in a b&b.
Thats why I suggested he/she travels with a friend. Desperate times call for desperate measures and all that. Maybe there aren't relatives in the area, but there probably will be at the funeral and hopefully they will help the op out.0 -
I'm really sorry about your loss. Did your Dad have a partner who you could approach to lend you some money? Have you literally no other family who can lend you the money?
The megabus suggestion is a good one - how much money have you got to put towards this? Is there absolutely nothing at all? Could you cut back on your normal bills (eg all the frugal eating stuff on the old savers' board) in order to save a bit more?
Keep us posted about your progess - all the best0 -
I'm so sorry to hear about your loss and your stress at trying to find the travel and accommodation expenses, plus my regret at some of the harsh suggestions. Hopefully the application for the community care grant will be swift and successful.
For cheap/free accommodation, consider a site like Gumtree and couch surfing, a youth hostel or similar.
If you face issues affording groceries because of this unexpected expense, look into whether there is a food bank in Leeds and/or Cornwall which can supply you with a few days basic foodstuffs.
Also, this is the link to payments for funerals.

Sorry for your loss x
Anyway, as you have said you are paying for the funeral and are on benefits, you could apply for a funeral grant, just looked on direct gov, it also says you get can get help for travel to arrange the funeral or attend.
Hope this has helped? and once again sorry for your loss xLaugh and the world laughs with you:rotfl:

You should plan for things like this.
Don't you have enough money to at least get a cheap return bus journey? No need to stay overnight I assume and if there is look into hostels, relatives or something.
If that's not good enough you'll not be going.
Blummin 'eck,
Are you Martin Ellingham by any chance from Doc Martin on a Monday night.
You need to lighten up !!!!!!. Do yu have many friends.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
So sorry for your loss.
Hopefully you are able to get a community care grant for this, as others have advised. I had a quick look, and the megabus costs about £25-£28 SINGLE to get to Plymouth from Leeds, then there's the cost of onwards travel. (National Express costs from £71.90!). Also, I noticed the coach either leaves at about 5am or arrives at around midnight, meaning probably having to get a taxi at some point
Then there's the journey time - about 9 hours by coach to Plymouth, so realistically, you would have to travel the day before the funeral and return the day after, meaning you really need 2 nights accommodation.
You could also speak to social services, as they may be able to apply to charities on your behalf. As someone else said, there are couchsurfing websites where people will let you stay for free, and also sites like housetrip and airbnb where people make a charge to stay in their home, and might just give you a reduced price given the circumstances. I've heard that some give you breakfast and other meals without charge. There's even a campinmygarden site if you can get a tent (last resort obv).
Even doing everything really cheaply, it's going to cost at least £100!
I hope you manage to get it sorted out. My thoughts are with you.0 -
Wow, I didn't think (and still don't) I was being harsh. The OP didn't come here for comfort -just advice.
The OP has over a week to sort things and they must have money coming or sitting from their last DWP payments/s (Income Support & DLA).
I know people with much less income who travel when they have to. Plenty cheap forms of travel out there (although you have to book them early in most cases).
Like I said, plan.
If people think I was being overly harsh maybe they can send the OP money or start a travel fund?0 -

Don't - that may have been the intention of the post!0
