Help To Travel To My Dad's Funeral

Hello
Can any one give me some advice please?
My Dad died on Thursday and he lived in Cornwall and I live in Leeds. I am on benefits income support and lower rate DLA. I also get help with me rent.
I don’t have any savings and there is no one who can lend me the money to go to his funeral. I don’t have a good credit rating that I could even get a loan.
I need to go to his funeral I don’t have the money to travel down to Cornwall and I would need somewhere to stay too.
When my Mum died last October I applied to the social fund but did not get it as I was not in danger and it was not a risk to my health, so could not get it.
My Dad has left no money as he was on benefits to I need to work out how I will pay for the funeral yet!
Can any one give me some advice as the funeral date as been set for the 1st November!
Kind regards
Tigerlilly

You should plan for things like this.

Don't you have enough money to at least get a cheap return bus journey? No need to stay overnight I assume and if there is look into hostels, relatives or something.

If that's not good enough you'll not be going.

    Try the megabus.

You will get help as someone has all ready said with the funeral expenses.

As has been suggested on the other thread, you can travel very cheaply on the Megabus. Once there, surely you can stay in your late father's home?

Do you have friend who would perhaps hitch-hike with you, then when you get there throw yourselves on the mercy of relatives?

That is the point of her post....SHE HAS NO MONEY
  • Wow some sly judgements on here already, whether you agree with benefits or not can we all please remember and have some compassion, this persons just lost their father !!!!!!!!
Depending how long you have been on Income Support you can apply for a community care grant which helps pay for travel expenses for unforseen circumstances like this. You can claim for travel and if you need accomodation (so megabus/train and cheap B&b/travel lodge). A crisis loan or bedgeting loan is no use, but community care grants are available for these situations (I had similar circumstances and received help). So sorry to hear of your loss, and so soon after your mum. Big hugs xxx

    Not very safe advice!

There may not be any relatives in the area, in fact her father may not even have a home she could stay at, he could of been in a hostel, a nursing home, lived in a b&b.

Hi so sorry to hear about your loss I am still paying the credit card for getting to my grandfathers funeral months ago.
As stated as your dad was on the social he will be taken care of. Who has set the date of the 1st of November as thought next of kin would do this ? I am sure you will find a way to get there if you really want to ? Cancel internet to find money reduce food bill ! As people have stated the mega bus also why cant you stay in your dads place as they will give you a few days to soart out his stuff even if its just sleeping on the sofa.

Just noticed you have posted the exact same message two days apart but have not answered anyone !!!!
