  • An Australian holiday could easily be 4 - 6 weeks long, for example. So don't assume the worst is the only thing that could be happening.

Yup you are officially Rock n Roll :D
  • I understand what u say about maybe a long holiday. I wouldn't have known that if my daughter hadn't have mentioned going away at all but she said two weeks.

I don't have an access order or anything as there was a mutual agreement in place for me to see her when they lived over here. They now reside in Germany with the armed forces. They were posted there for three years and I believe that is pretty much up so this is where I think they may have moved.

I realise that Facebook can help find people, the only info I got was that my ex sold her pets on a Facebook page, not a good sign I guess as to me that's an indicator of a possible move.

I just have a really bad feeling about it all.
  • Although you don't have an access order, do you have parental responsibility?

If they were in Germany with the forces couldn't you track the step dad through them?

If they are in the Forces, try posting on the Armed Forces part of the forum for some ideas.

If you do withhold maintenance, you must put those payments aside. It may be better to get some advice before you do that though in case it has consequences you haven't thought of.

I have tried phoning her family, but they wont give me any info.

It has been four weeks since you last spoke to your daughter. You are worried because the lack of contact is unusual.

On the other hand, she's safe: her maternal grandparents probably know where she is - it's just that they won't tell you, for some reason.

DD mentioned a holiday. Is it possible that she went to stay with her grandparents while your ex and her husband removed from Germany and sorted out things like schools and housing?

If you're desperate then there are a couple of things you might consider but have a care because these options will stir up the mucky stuff.

    1. Contact the grandparents/family again. Seek reassurance that your daughter is safe and well. Tell them that you want to hear her voice and want a phonecall from her. Warn them that you will report the child missing to the local UK police if you don't hear from your daughter within 24 hours. Don't threaten - just seek reassurance and emphasise that you just want your daughter to contact you or else you will continue to believe that something is wrong.

    2. You have no real evidence that your ex and your daughter have left Germany. The could be in the middle of moving or they could be on holiday.

The first thing that a detective would do would be to visit the house in Germany and find out whether they have indeed left - and aren't just ignoring you or have no access to broadband/emails etc.

If you are unable to go there yourself, and can't afford a Private Investigator then consider contacting the civil (not military) Police in Germany and report your concerns about your missing daughter. Four weeks is a long time! Ask them to enquire as to whether she still resides at the address and whether she is safe and well. Tell them that if the house is empty you intend to report her missing to the UK police.

Remember what I said about being very careful about how you speak to the grandparents - no threats. You're not asking for an address, you're only asking to hear your daughter's voice - so they should be more forthcoming in the face of this perfectly reasonable request.

    3. If you get no joy from the police in Germany or the grandparents, walk into your local police station and report your daughter missing.

Hope that helps with a few more options.
  • I agree with the poster further back about not panicking just yet especially as she mentioned a holiday.

keep trying the ex's folks - can you turn up at their house?

If she wanted to do a runner and not tell you would she not have stopped your payments, I mean, is that not a way to trace where they are?

Good Luck and dont panic xxx

  • Also could she not have meant she was going away in 2 weeks time, not going away for 2 weeks ?
