It really is the luck of the draw. I gave up comping for nearly 2 years as I just couldnt win anything. Then I entered a comp in my local paper and won a couiple of tickets for a show.
My d/h said why not start again..so I did ..took a while to get back into, but Im glad I have.
I enter maybe 150-250 comps per day and even then I can go without a win for a while.
Its nice to win something big but even the small wins are great...just to get that email or a mystery parcel. Also keep in mind the number of people who enter ....you can see how many people have viewed a thread on here, but dont forget there are many other sites like this.....and sometimes your the lucky one out of hundreds sometimes thousands that have entered a comp.
So just keep persevering ..the comps should be fun not a chore :D
    Thanks to all comp posters:A

  • I enter 100+ each day but I gave up comping completely for a few months earlier this year because it seemed like too much effort for too little reward.

The previous 18 months I had at least 6 win each month - nothing huge but a few Xboxes and 4 mobiles.

Then suddenly I went from January to April 2011 only having 3 tiny wins across 4 months.

I wasn't enjoying it so I stopped. Simple as that.

Now I've started again and I'm enjoying it - but I would say that if it is leaving you feeling permanently despondent or irritated then there isn't much point persevering as only a whopper of a win is going to make you happy.

There does seem to have been a massive increase in the number of people entering competitions over the last 18 months, which means your odds of winning are less. I keep jokingly moaning to my husband about all these "newbie compers stealing my prizes" :rotfl:

At the end of the day, it should be an enjoyable hobby - once it becomes a chore, it is time to give it a break for a while.

a few xboxes??? oh my God! Would have been enough for me never to stop comping!! :rotfl:

I do agree though, only do it if you enjoy it as it can prove quite stressful and also, 50 comps A WEEK are really nowhere enough to see satisfying results... though if you are REALLY lucky it can happen (my friend only enterered ONE comp to win a trip to NY once and won... ) but it's the exception unfortunately!

  • ozma83 -I know, it sounds awful doesn't it? We all fall victim to "comping greed" sooner or later though :rotfl:

I try to avoid IWIWIW these days too, if I'm honest.

You might have entered the exact same 100 comps as another MSE'er - they've won 8 of them and you've won nothing and it starts to grate a little. So I keep my bitterness locked away in the attic now, along with a dusty portrait.................:rotfl:

    50 was when I stopped counting !!

I've done issue 42 / 43 of Take A Break, Loads via 'Pick Me Up', most of the ITV ones, Hourly iphone Sunday Times today. Tv's, Xboxes, cash, hampers, food, theatre tickets, computers, kitchen stuff, furniture, cinema passes, camcorders, ipad, eeepad, lip balm even.

I suppose IWIWIW only tells a story of the limited successes V all the unlucky ones who probably mostly keep quiet!!

I guess I'm taking it a bit too personal / a failure of not winning as I play to win!!!

When comping starts to feel like a chore, I take a break from it (last time it must have been 6 months!) then when I started again, for some reason I had 2 fantastic wins in a matter of weeks lol (2 x £1000 cash ) Since then (back in Feb/March) have only had little wins, despite entering 100s per week (I dont keep a count). I love the instant win comps, they seem to be my luckiest type. If it really feels like a chore, give yourself a little break for a while and come back at it with new fresh eyes, seems to work :D Due a little break myself soon again but am holding on for all the Christmas comps lol. Good luck - throwing fairy dust in your direct, and I hope you get some great wins soon x

ps - wasted a lot of comping time this year on Twitter - steering clear of it now lol

Curious, unless I've misread you, how my post came across as moaning? At least you've got the Skittles! ;)

to be honest with you, I wouldn't be unhappy at all if I had won "a few xboxes" and "a few mobiles"...if they really don't make you happy you can send one over to me, it'd cheer me up immensely! :P

Comping should be a hobby and anything you win even the little silly things should make you happy. If you do it with a focus on the big useful megabucks wins, then of course it will make you unhappy...
