My mum uses an electric blanket to warm the bed for my kids but I don't own any, I do however put a single quilt under the sheet and then add another sheet then the top duvet (like what my nan used to) and that kept my kids nice and warm last winter.
We do have hot water bottles though.Little Person Number 4 Due March 2012

I second the wheatbags, if they burst you don't end up scalded or with a very wet bed; they aren't as cold when they cool down as hot water bottles, and you don't have to send them off to be serviced once a year, as you do with electric blankets.Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j
If all else fails, remember, keep calm and hug a spaniel!0 -
completely forgot that they got wheat bags last xmas ~ gonna root them out and pop those in bed instead ££££'s saved0

...and don't forget the good old flannelette sheets, so much cosier than poly cotton.
Wearing socks to bed keeps the whole body warm too.0 -

Personally, no. But I'm really not comfortable with electric blankets full stop. The thought of electric blankets and children who would tinker with them (by that I mean my eldest two 8 & 5) fills me with dread.
I'm another one who favours wheat bags and hot water bottles, half an hour or so before bed.0 -
I wouldnt give an electric blanket to a child. Although it is nearly 20 years ago, as a teenager I left mine on during the night and I woke up in tears I was soooo hot. I scalded my hand by putting it on a faulty part (element?) and when I threw the duvet back the whole thing went up in flames. Fortunately the burnt stuff scrubbed off my hand and my mum threw the whole lot out the window - it could have been so much worse. My daughter gets a hot water bottle even though I am quite sure they are a lot more reliable now.Light Bulb Moment - 11th Nov 2004 - Debt Free Day - 25th Mar 2011 :j0

we use hot water bottles and my daughter loves them plus cost nothing to run like electric blankets and you can get some funky covers for them, i dont think i would use electric blankets though, saying that i have never used one as i dont like the idea of it tbh.Raven. :grinheart:grinheart:grinheart0

They are a bad idea if there is chance the child might wet the bed. Otherwise I don't see a problem.0

My DS is in the smallest bedroom with two outside walls and the room gets cold. Last night I put a cheap duvet (£5.61 from Asda) under the mattress protector, which keeps it in place, then put on a flannalette fitted sheet and pillowcase cover and finished off with a duvet. He takes a hot water bottle shaped wheat bag to bed and this morning he reported he was lovely and warm. When it gets really cold I also put a fleecy throw on the bed.
