I'm another who has fallen for a Maggie Sottero dress (Zabrina), way over budget but was with my mum when we got it and she agreed it is perfect. I have to say i didn't really enjoy dress shopping, tried on so many until I found the one. I'm quite petite (think Oompa Loompa in a meringue) and all the dresses were massive and had to be pinned and tucked, one shop actually stuffed big sponges down my back to make the dresses stay up and I felt like a right idiot! Really glad I've got this one ticked of the list!

ETA It is £800 plus alterations.

£700 - reduced from £1400 to £775 then I managed to get £700. It's an ex-sample and I just love it. It fits like a glove, accentuating my curves and flattening my stomach. The train has these amazing organza flowers on it which get larger towards the bottom, making it feel more unusual and less traditional. I didn't mean to get a dress - but when I tried it on I felt a million dollars and to hell with the price tag!

  • I budgeted £1000 for my dress

I went trying on a few yesterday. What I thought I wanted was nothing like I really ended up liking

I think I have found "the dress" but I'm trying on some more tomorrow. If nothing comes close I go back & get this one. It is going to cost me £1,200

Oh yay, The One!! :D If you go for that one don't forget to phone round other shops to see what they are charging - you might save yourself some money.

    Mine was £3000....

...if I'd have paid full price! I got a sample dress off eBay for £300.

I'm another anti-Chinese eBay person. I met the guy who runs Brides Aware at a wedding event recently. I believe he also owns Bonny Bridal and was an interesting chap to talk to. Anyway, too many horror stories including my own (ashamed to say it - I bought a copy dress from Landy Bridal before buying MY dress and it was hideous) and the dresses look cheap and nasty, no matter what people try to convince themselves. The Brides Aware chap was basically saying that buying copy dresses REALLY harms the industry and designers themselves. If you can't afford the real deal, buy second hand or a sample dress like I did.

I tried it, it doesn't fit at the top i.e. it won't zip up all the way. Gutted as it is lovely :( I so need to lose weight... :(

  • I got my dress yesterday, it was £1000 & I it it for £700 as it was a sample dress although result that it only came in last week so hadn't been tried on & was in immaculate condition. So pleases

I even got the wow factor in it which I never thought I would having not been a dress Perron & not having worn a dress in years. Made me feel very emotional

I didn't care about my dress, and when I was planning our budget I put £300 aside for it... well that was till I went to try some on with my mum... the dress I have fallen in love with is made by a designer called Donna Lee Designs - lol but that is all the info you're getting on it - you never know whose eyes may be reading. Anyway it cost £825 including alterations.

I second this. I tried on alfred angelo 1148 on saturday and was smitten. So simple and old school elegant. It was already reasonable at £545 but ringing round i found a shop doing 25% off, no other shop would match it. It was 30 miles away but worth the trip

  • Wow! You girls are rich! I married in Bangladesh, the very traditional way, although I am not Bangladeshi. I wore a burgundy colour saree with golden stripes on my waist, red tropical flower in my hair, and had no makeup on. Well that was a good idea, because it was the monsoon season at that time and by the time I went out of the rickshaw to the wedding place, I was soaked :rotfl:
