I don't remember making up any rule, but maybe you could remind me if I did.
If there were such a rule, I think you might be the biggest breaker of it. I don't recall any other poster repeatedly reminding us of their personal financial situation as much as yourself. Even Hamish seems to keep things fairly quiet these days, although he has waved his w***y one or twice in the past. As you well know, both myself and one or two other folk feel that repeated publication of your personal financial situation seems to be rather boastful.30 Year Challenge : To be 30 years older. Well I think it's your perspective.
No doubt you dont proclaim those in the DFW forum as boastful yet they openly talk about their personal finances, at length and often.
I doubt a sub group of multi-millionaires would view RM's situation as boastful.
So I'd guess he's slightly better off than you and its those who are sort of in your range but better off you apply this to?0 -

And that's yours.
Or at least a way to have a pop at Dervprof!0 -

My perspective. Yes that's right.
Well done. I presume you're irate after I criticised your one eyed stance on debt.
If you or he want to call it a "pop" so be it. The words are out there.0 -

Irate because a one eyed poster called me one eyed? No.0 -

The guys in the MFW forum also divulge financial details and have blogs and overpayment details in their signatures similar to the DFW guys. Whole threads are devoted to encouraging each other with their overpayments, no matter how large or small these may be and very detailed information about each other's personal finances are discussed. I've not seen anyone proclaiming the MFW's as boastful either.0 -

You are correct, it is my perspective.
I don't proclaim those in the DFW (or the MFW) forum boastful, as those forums are obviously going to encourage people to openly discuss their personal finances, if they so wish. I think this forum is more for debating, discussing and arguing points about the property market and wider economy, at least that is what it's title suggests. While I think there are times when some posters may disclose financial information (as I have done in the past), the repeated statement of how well one thinks one is doing can be seen as bragging. RM certainly has a track record of mentioning it more than occasionally. He certainly made it clear that he thought I was jealous in one certain (rather unsavory) post. Seemed to me that was rather hoping that I was jealous, which I am certainly not. I have a rather more cautious outlook on my finances, and as well as he appears to be doing, I'd rather not be in his situation. Indeed, I think his financial "plan" is rather a good one, and I have stated that more than once. It's just that I find that the repeated posts remind me of the bloke down the pub that's always telling everyone how well off he is. Yes we know, now please give it a rest and get a round in.30 Year Challenge : To be 30 years older. Equity : Don't know, don't care much. Savings : That's asking for ridicule.0 -

Sounds like that forum might be a better place for you to discuss such matters. I think you did post over there a few times, before returning here. If you need to discuss or debate the pros and cons of mortgage overpayments, and share with others you success, then the MFW forum would surely be the place to do it.
I find some of your posts here quite interesting, and have agreed with a few of them. I don't think we need to constantly hear how well your plan is going, just like we don't need Richard Branson to keep telling us that his plan is doing just fine.30 Year Challenge : To be 30 years older. I don't remember anyone making you into a moderator Dervprof, you clearly have an inflated sense of your own importance on this board and now seem to want to guide the financial discussions a certain way, to create rules about what sort of information can be imparted and even decide who should or should not post on the board.
Judging by the number of PMs I have received telling me to 'Ignore the jealous ******", I asssume that everyone knows the reason you post these periodic rants against me. You do yourself no favours with other board members. If I were you, I would leave the sniping to the likes of geneer and just get on with debating the economy and house prices.0 -
