Windsor Associates - Advertising in Tesco

Options
Been approached by these guys regarding advertising business cards etc in new tesco store near us.

Anyone got any experience?

Quick google indicates it might be a bit of a waste of money...

Assuming the branch is local to you hang out in the store near the board and see how many people read the notices. Also how many have a pen and paper handy to write down the details, or is it a display that issues business cards?

Last thing I want to do in a supermarket is spend time reading notice boards but your mileage may vary.

Took a chance and signed up for 2 years advertising with this concept, putting business cards in two local Tesco stores, Chorley, and Leyland. Cards were placed in February this year.

Cards were going (?!), but no phone calls.. Part of the deal was exclusivity, no other business trading as we do (Locksmiths) allowed to advertise in the same stores. Suddenly find out that our closest competitor has his cards right next to ours! Complaint from us resulted in being offered a year refund, which we refused. We asked for the competitor to be removed, which happened, after a five week delay.

That brings us up to yesterday, so this afternoon, I go to check that their promise has been kept, and find that the competitor cards have been removed, but so have ours!!!

Waiting to hear back from them, pretty disgusted now, and would prefer a hefty refund and walk away, to be honest, but probably closer to getting a few mil on the lottery than that happening..

Anyone considering this form of advertising, be very, very careful..

Its one of those boards by the savings stamp machine where you can pick up business cards.

LOL the only people I know who actually use the saving stamps are usually wedged up, they simply use the stamps so they don't have to hand the cash over at xmas for the £300 of booze they buy.

Best thing to do is pick two businesses that are on the board and give them a call, ask the business owner directly and get real feedback. We were going to advertise on the one in Wickes which is pretty much identical. I called 7 businesses off there, 2 weren't very helpful, 1 said it was the best thing he did EVER (His words). The remaining 4 said it was the biggest waste of money ever, one (an electrician) complained so much about it to them they gave him another term for free and it still failed to bring in any business.
Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.
  • Further to my previous post (see above), our cards were replaced, and the competitor has remained removed, but it took them over two weeks to replace the cards, not a very good state of affairs.

I go in the store this morning, to find the display removed completely..

Asking at customer service, they said that the store had been refitted, and that the board would be replaced soon (but couldn't say how soon). Additionally, the stamp machine that the board surrounds has never been taken down, but repositioned to a point where few customers would pass it, instead of it's regular location at the entrance to the cafe, where people lock their shopping in secure area to go and eat/drink, etc.

This means that the "prominent position" which was the selling point of the sales pitch, will no longer apply.

Guess what?! I checked the contract small print, and they're covered for this eventuality, so I have no form of recompense, should I decide to pursue it.

For anyone looking for info as to whether or not this advertising is a good idea, I can categorically state that in my experience, my answer is a big fat "NO"..:(
