Need help netbooks please

Im not sure if im posting this in the right area if Im wrong please let me know and I will put it somewhere else.

I have two young children 8 and 7 who regullarly use the family computer to play games such as club penguin and binweevils online. They have both asked if they would be allowed there own laptop for christmas as there are alot of rows in our house when they both want to play....All the basically want to be able to do is go online to play these games and others on various childrens websites.

Im not willing to spend a fortune given there ages and whilst looking on ebay came across these netbooks. I havent a clue about computers and was wondering if there were any techie people out there that could let me know if these were ideal for the job...Im hoping so..

A Netbook will set you back £120. If you can afford it, then think of something else.
  • Are they really that bad??

I got my MSI netbook on the Argos ebay outlet for £130.Great little machine. It says they are refurbished but mine was brand new.I was told they have to say they are refurbished as Microsoft won't allow them to sell new machines with XP installed.Grandkids love it.

The specification is really poor and is more of a toy than a netbook.

I think they would be very disappointed at how slow it would be and you would have to make sure the games would even run on it. I don't know much about Windows CE but it is designed for very basic equipment. It has little or nothing to do with Windows xp, Vista or 7 apart from the name.

Most smartphones are more powerful than this
  • Ok thanks for your advice...I have managed to find the following netbook

    Acer Aspire One ZG5 30GB 1GB Ram

refurbished at a very resonable price, would this be more suitable for what the kids need it for?? Sorry to be a pain its just I really havent a clue.
  • Netbooks are great for what they are designed to do, which is browse the web, some light MS Office work and maybe listening to music. Their main advantage over laptops is that the battery can last for 3 - 4 times longer, but that's because they have very slow, energy efficient CPUs. They won't play any games very well at all.
  • What kind of laptop am I looking at then to play online games such as club penguin etc?? Also after something that is reasonable in size and not massive..... Havent a clue what im looking for. Thanks

So the refurbishment is that they have replaced the hard drive, at least.
