Minister for Disabled People clueless about DLA

In response to the Scope report, minister for disabled people Maria Miller said: "At the moment disability living allowance doesn't have an in-built reassessment as part of it and we have £600m a year going out in overpayments as a result.

So the minister for disabled people, thinks people on DLA are awarded it, then never ever re-assessed.

[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.

The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that

And the DWP are stating people are awarded DLA for life, without any checks
At the moment over 70% of people get DLA for life without any systematic checks to see if their condition has changed.

Thanks for posting these lies. I've sent my MP a long email, I'm looking for other ways to complain.

I do wonder if this is ignorance, or a very carefully worded statements intended to mislead.
DLA has no built-in reassessment time set down in legislation.
It's all through DWP practice, and caselaw. So the statement is legally true.

It's clearly intended to mislead though.
The other statement could also be parsed to be true, though misleading.
Of the people with indefinite awards, only 30% have been reviewed and placed on a definite time award. (I have no idea if this is accurate)

Jeez.......it never ceases to amaze me how some people have nothing better to do with their lives than complain! Surely you have better things to do with your time, if not, then poor you

It could certainly be deliberate obfuscation, rogerblack. When I wrote to my MP, I simply quoted, then explained what the situation was.
