I have been tempted to buy one myself since they came out, but I like the feel of the book's.

I said that until I read on a kindle. Now I have unread books because its so much easiler and nicer to read on a kindle. Also the problem I was having with pain in my thumb from holding the book open has been resolved. I would never crack a spine of a book and years of holding open heavy books had taken its toll!

Get one, its the best thing in the world. EVER!:p
But if ever I stray from the path I follow
Take me down to the English Channel
Throw me in where the water is shallow And then drag me on back to shore!
'Cos love is free and life is cheap As long as I've got me a place to sleep
Clothes on my back and some food to eat I can't ask for anything more

As a few people have said, lot of the classic books are free.

Not just classics. There are loads of free contemporary fiction and non-fiction titles available too.
There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.
It's for the many and not the few. Be sure it's out there looking for you.
In every town, in every state. In every house and every gate.
Wth every precious smile you make. And every act of kindness.

Original Poster here saying thanks for your contributions. I am fairly sure that I will be going down the path of purchase now. I don't read, but my wife does, and whilst she wouldn't normally purchase new books, seems to spend hours and money buying second hand "love" books from charity stalls/shops. The Kindle shown in the original link at £89 (I think) seems to be OK, basic and straight forward, unless you know different.

I love my kindle but the single gripe I have with it is (I know this sounds pathetic!) the brief nanosecond flash of black when you 'turn' the page. I suppose I'll get used to it in time...
In the old kindles (including the old Keyboard Kindle 3) it refreshes the whole screen every page turn (that's why it goes black) In the newer kindles it only does that every 6-8 turns, the upside is that it stretches out the battery by an extra 5%-10% but down side is that after 4 or 5 page turns the screen gets a tiny bit duller and fuzzier (but you only notice it if you are actually looking for it!)

Most people think it's a worthwhile trade off.

Think the next Kindle3 update will include the multipage turn before refresh to help with battery life.

Thanks EdinburghLass, long time no see, either that or we haven't frequented the same threads.
