iPhone 4S - Orange Upgrade. How to get the best price?

Hi there,

Im about 2 months away from the end of my current contract with Orange and looking to upgrade to the iPhone 4S. Love the iPhone's to bits and want to get the newest like many people! But don't like the upfront costs for the handsets.

Looked at Martins, disconnections tactics but what with the new iPhone being so new they wont budge.

What im offered is:
iPhone 4S Black 16GB - 18 months - £31.00 a month
200mins
250texts
750mb internet
Upfront cost of £169.99

What im asking is has anyone managed to find a better deal?

I want to stick around the £30 mark give or take and try get the handset FREE (if poss.) I dont mind switching network, however i thought they would have liked to try keep me for 2 years if i had agreed to 24 month instead of 18 for a free phone. That way they only lose £100 they were going to get for the handset but keep a customer for another 2 years?! - Just my logic. However im sure there are other reasons.

I know the phone has only just come out, prices are competitive and high because everyone wants them....but any advice to my question would be great. I know the chances are low but you never know. Some of you may have got a decent upgrade deal.

Regards,
Jack

Be more realistic. People are queueing for 4s and are paying almost £1K on ebay to get it.

Also Apple doesn't allow the networks much freedom when it comes to setting tariffs and upfront costs for the iPhone...
Now free from the incompetence of vodafail

Steady on soldier, im in no rush, i have 2 months left on the contract. The phones not sold out online at the moment anyway?! so buying on ebay would be pointless.(did say wasnt buying upfront im referring to contract pay monthlys.) Its the fact of surely a phone company want to keep you. if they have had over £700 off me in the last 2 years, to keep me surely they would consider instead of charging 169 for the upgrade give it for free and secure me for another 2 years?
    Seems logical.

I hear they're really struggling to sell the new iPhone, you should get a great deal......oh wait

Seriously they won't bend the price for you, you could spend thousands a year and the price wouldnt budge, a phone company or indeed any company isnt interested in keeping your custom if you don't make them any money

A colleague asked for his PAC yesterday on Orange and has today been offered-
    IPhone 4S 16GB
    1000mins / UL txts / UL data
    £60 upfront / £31 month / 24 months

    He seemed very pleased!

He's bending the truth on that just abit, the cost of the phone would be £169 and you only get 300 minutes on a £31 a month tariff, and also there are no deals on the less than a week old iPhone.

Where have you ever seen Apple confirm they control everything ? yes when exclusives like o2 had them.....as far as Telstra told me in AU, Apple take a cut of the contract over the term the handset is in use, Apple trace this like Blackberry trace it - a unique identifer code.

Apple cannot ANY enforce price plans with ANY network in Europe using the device, as the EU Competition Comission would be all over them for breaking EU Directives.
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)

Well he hasn't ordered it yet ... so we'll see if it actually happens. He just came down to ask my opinion this afternoon. He was offered the terms you state when he requested his PAC yesterday. He is out of contract - so could leave Orange without a problem. As I say we'll wait and see if it does happen!

If he has been offered that then there's nothing to think about, no network will match it

No, but they can set the sim free hardware price high enough to not allow much leeway.
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂
