Really slow laptop

He originally quoted £100.00 but said he needed to speak to the owner and then it became £130.00. I actually own 2 Hard Drive Caddies but was a bit worried about transferring his photos. Actually I could have easily done it myself. So this evening I am trying to transfer the photos myself by using a 256mp key thing. However it seems to be taking forever as the laptop is really slow. So I thought I would try the caddy route but I cant seem to find the hard drive to remove it.
What is the Service Tag of your old DELL?
I hope that you are not trying to touch the hard drive of the 'new' laptop. Don't give him any reason....0 -

the servjce tag for my hubbys old machine is missing ( although there is a number with a barcode L004058 but it also has the name and number of the previous owner typed on) and the service tag for the one he sold me is 92fp01j. why is that relevant?
i managed to copy the data accross on a key to my laptop. i spoke to the man just now, as my dad just died and i am busy organising a funeral, and he was not very receptive. he said it has a 3 month labour guarantee if anything goes wrong. I told him i wanted a refund as it is not fit for purpose under the Sale of Goods act. He said that he showed me how fast the internet loaded when i went in querying the speed originally and I said that my husband found it almost impossible to use at his house and even at mine where i have a good signal it is crap.
He said if I took it in he would look to adding more memory but I said I just want my money back as soon as possible. I also said I would take advice from Trading Standards and Citizens Advice. I was calm and reasonable but not sure how I stand now?0 -
I went in this afternoon and took it back. I explained that as far as I was concerned it is not fit for purpose under the Sale of Goods Act and he immediately came back at me by saying that it did not apply to Second Hand Goods. I told him it actually did. He then said he had demonstrated the internet signal to me in the shop but I pointed out that it was really really slow at my OH's house and nearly as slow at mine. I also told him that I did ask for my money back within the 1st week when I discovered it did not even have a wireless card and he now denies that I asked for a refund.
I told him I want at least the £130.00 back or I will get a CCJ against him. i know that means another £35.00 but maybe the threat will get him to cough it. I told him I would be back on Saturday for my money but in the meantime I will be taking advice from the Trading Standards.
I have my Dad's funeral tommorow so had to leave it for now.0 -

No need to bump. Just post when you have news.
This is the Technical forum. Perhaps you can look here for help with the shopkeeper.
just wondered what the significance of the service tag is? will be going in to see him tommorow and if he wont refund at least 130 then i will send him a letter setting out the Sale of Goods act regarding 2nd hand goods. If no joy then I will sent him another letter threatening the small claims court0 -
