Frontline (normal) kills fleas directly as it is a contact insecticide (they absorb it and it kills them).
Frontline Combo also sterilises the fleas to ensure the life cycle is broken.
Most flea-killers kill the egg, larvae and adults. NO flea treatment currently has the ability to kill the pupae (think about caterpillars and butterflies and the stage between). The best way to ensure you are killing as much of the population as possible is to use a spray such as Indorex or Staykill is to spray the entire house (ensuring no pets are around including fish and houseplants!) and then hoover each day for a week. The vibrations caused by the hoover help to encourage the pupae to 'hatch' into adults and therefore become susceptible to the insecticide. Spraying in warm places such as your airing cupboard (when free of clothes etc.) and the hoover bag will also help.
I have know many vets who prefer Advantage and many who prefer Frontline - I have never heard of a scientific reason for this so I think there is unlikely to be much difference. Frontline spray IS more effective than spot-on because you ensure the whole pet is covered and a correct dose is used. Essentially they are the same product though.
Many thanks for the links for cheap frontline, I really appreciate it! A vet friend who I used to work with says it is cheaper than her vets are able to get it for at cost price!

I wanted to buy Frontline Combo. My vet wanted £35 for 3 pipettes. I had used Vet UK for ordinary Frontline so was disappointed to find they only sold it with a prescription (another £15 from the vet!)
However, I found that Zooplus (website is zooplus.fr) will sell it without problems and including postage to the UK a 3 pack costs £29.
I had no problems with their website and the order arrived in 4 working days. The website is only available in French but easy enough to follow for a non French speaker like me.
Whether the Combo is worth the extra over the standard is yet to be seen.0 -

Is it the same strength though? Frontline produce 2 versions of their products, and the weaker one is sold in pet stores and supermarkets without prescription. I'm not saying don't try it, but be cautious that it may prove to be a false economy.0
