I've found that the spot-on is excellent for my older two cats ( which both live outdoors virtually 24/7 ) but not so effective for my kitten ( which is on house arrest until her vaccinations are fully effective and we have had her chipped. ) I have no doubt this is because we have fleas/flea eggs in the house. All I do is comb her daily with a flea comb and remove them as I find them. In all cases the fleas have been immature and many seem woosy and easy to catch. I suspect that provided I maintain the frontline treatment we'll eventually elimate them as they can't survive on her and can't live without her!

 Unfortunately they can survive without her! The larvae can survive dormant in carpet for as much as 12 months with no host!
wolvesinwales is right-continue the flea treatment through the year and you'll crack teh lil' blighters!!

  • Hi Martin,

I would like to say that we have just bought some Frontline spot on 6 pack from Petmeds.com and the price was £15.31 inc vat and first class postage(post was free).

    Hope this helps everyone.

Keep up the good work !

Frontline is £15.99 on vetuk.co.uk and use the code newyear5 for a 5% discount.
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)
  • I used Frontline about a year ago. Worked OK for a while but the fleas were back by November (particularly annnoying as we have a 'house cat' who only ventures in the garden occasionally). Second time around I ordered Frontline Plus from these people...

...as I though it would kill the eggs as well. Funnily enough, I'd never heard of Frontline Combo until I read this thread  (sounds like the UK equivalent to the Frontline Plus I went for...but with the need for a prescription  ).

Arrived quickly enough (I went for 3 pipettes) & seems to have worked so far on my 13 year old puddy cat.

You need to use it every month for it to be effective.
  • Try petsupermarket through quidco. Theres also money off vouchers floating around.
  • I only use Frontline regular on my two cats between April and October (every 6 weeks). Mine don't socialise much with other cats (1 snobby, 1 scared:p ) so the infestation rate seems low. This could also be due to there being about 10 other cats on our block all of whom are probably treated more often than mine.

I tried the Combo but Sherlock, although ok with the regular one seemed to have a skin reaction which expresses itself by making him leap 4 feet into the air and give me a very dirty look. This seems to happen when the drops are on his skin for about 5 mins.

Has anyone worked out the best deal for 2008? Im a little confused.

I pricechecked just and petmeds were coming out cheapest. Quidco cashback sweetens it further am just being greedy and holding out for a voucher as well!
