lovely knitting, Nora hadn't even contemplated that you would need more than one ball of wool at a time when you made it. duh!0

I love that throw, looks so warm and cosy!
And yup body armour works better when its worn, but he isn't going to be wearing it for a while yet, although that doesn't really explain why he abandoned it on my living room floor then wandered off to the depths of some army training area for the rest of the week - words will be had when he turns up again, if I'm home long enough this weekend to actually see him when hes awake. It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

Hi all.
Over the last couple of days I've been thinking a lot about the value of material things.
Stick with me here - this isn't going to wander too far into the 'give it all up and ye shall inherit the love of a ferret' realm without at least stopping for a chocolate break....
At the beginning of the month I ebayed a bright pink wool coat. It was gorgeous, and I loved it. I'd bought it on impulse from M&S on a day where, following a week in a cramped and sweaty hotel room, I was feeling less than fabulous and a little homesick for Chez Nora.
Truth be told, like many of my impulse purchases, I bought it because I wanted to be the sort of woman who wore such things - seduced by that moment in the store where you believe that a mere coat will turn you into someone who actually liberates her make-up from it's bag, or who not only washes and brushes her hair, but actively dries and styles it. I wore it once, and felt so out of place I never wore it again.
When I listed that coat, I heaved a big sigh as though I was letting go of some sort of 'fab me' dream and sent it into the world to have fun.... and haven't thought of it again until I started writing this post. It fascinates me that something I found so powerfully suggestive just months ago, even weeks ago, now holds little value - other than that warm glow when I think of the £40-odd quid it raised towards a £450 Next bill.
Ok - time for a cuppa and some choccie. Back in a mo.:coffee:0 -

Right, I'm back...accompanied by mint aero (though not for long...mwahahaha).
Now where was I? Oh yes, material things.....
This morning I sold books which I'd collected for years - ones I've held onto because I like to be surrounded by books, but haven't read more than once, and am unlikely to read again. This evening I've sold (well 'magpied' as a prelude to selling) DVDs which just weeks ago I wouldn't part with...
...and I'm not sad - a little nostaligic maybe, but more than anything, I'm excited to see the £50-odd I've raised today be applied to credit card 1. I don't even care that the two items I've got listed on ebay may only raise the £1.98 total they've got right now...my debt went up in pennies as well as pounds, so why not pay it off in the same?
So I've been musing on material things, and how we MSE-ers, once committed, begin to reprioritise what's important - and I'm just a bit chuffed with myself, and with everyone else along for the journey too.
Having lurked around some of the other forums, I've even been reminded that somewhere at the back of the bathroom cupboard, I have half a dozen face masks, and a veritable salon's worth of nail varnish...about time Chez Nora installed a salon methinks!
