  • Morning Missus Knitty.
First up, hope all in Scotland and thereabouts are doing ok despite your 140mph winds.

When I fly past you on my way to the merry old land of Oz can I pop in for a coffee?
I shall also be continuing my doing day from yesterday, as looking around, it seems I managed to do the 'make much more mess' part of cleaning and tidying....now for the much less fun part of sorting, putting back and cleaning!

It is a well known fact that to tidy up properly you have to make a real mess first..............so you're half way there :)

Hi Nora! You are sounding very motivated this morning. I was just considering putting a load of washing in but it sounds like it's raining again! How inconvenient :(

Anyways, to skip back to your glass painting and the paints you recommended- would something like this be ok?- LINK

Sorry to harp back to something that was pages ago but I was not internetly connected at home for a while but I'm back up and running! :) phew, I've missed it. I've been having to have converstions with my OH and everything!

Have a good 'doing day'. I have to take up our living room floor today in preperation for ne carpet so that should be fun!

  • Hi Laura!

Ahhh, rain...would you mind hanging onto it - just for today and tomorrow as I really need to get the gardens sorted prior to the move....go on....pleeeeaase......

No problems chatting about the glass - and yes, the vitrea 160s are great. Nice little set as well. And if you ever have the chance to visit the Fred Aldous store, guard your purse! It is the most amazing and wonderful arts and craft shop ever. Beneath it runs the Ministry of Craft which does all sorts of workshops (and gives you a percentage off in the shop). Their glass blanks are usually a really good price as well (it's where I get my suncatchers from).

Glad to hear you've got your internet back - no good can come of actually communicating with one's OH!!

And, ummm, you'll notice that I'm more motivated to be on here rather than doing stuff....*looks sheepish* Good luck with the living room floor!

Of course - will set out the landing pad *scurries off to get the "grab freeby as she flies past" hook*. I have biscuits too!

    And thankyou, I shall.;)

Thanks Nora. Definitely gonna give the glass painting a go as I have about 30 of the tealight holders upstairs leftover from our wedding which I had no idea what I was gonna do with them but now I think they will be nice gifts for mum, M-I-L, my bridesmaid and me! :) And I'll still have spares.. in case of c*ck ups in the early stages :)

I'm not really looking forward to taking up the floor- it's a really cheap laminate at the moment that the previous owners put in and I just know it's gonna be harder to get up than it really should be.

If you muck up while painting, just wipe off with a damp bit of kitchen towel. If you're at the painting stage, then washing up liquid and warm water will usually clean the glass right back (so long as you haven't baked it). If you've just mucked up a tiny bit of liner, then wait for it to begin to dry (about an hour for vitrea) and cut it out (kitchen knife or even the edge of a finger nail will do this just fine). When you first get the pack, try working with the relief on a bit of paper, or a bit of spare plastic (I use those plastic wallets you get for files as they seem to breed in my house). You'll want to get the feel for working with the tube before you get to the tealight holders. Vitrea relief is a little tougher coming out of the tube than other forms of relief - but that's because it's a lot sturdier once dry and cooked, so stick with it, it's worth it.

    Don't forget to post piccies!

As for the laminate - yep, sod's law says it'll be nasty...but think what you'll be putting down instead....it'll be lovely, and it'll be yours.

  • Righto, quick update....

Front lawn mown, various dead bushes trimmed, pots of flowers emptied pre-move...neighbourhood gossip caught up on... Really appreciating the hefty breeze - both to keep me cool as I schlep both myself and the lawnmower round, but also because it means there's no point me trying to sweep anything up....next door's uber neat garden is already looking quite 'cottage chic' with some of my escapee grass cuttings and leaves on it....

Stopping for a bite to eat and a drink, and to put a load of washing on. It'd be nice to get the back garden mown as well, as everything else in the garden can be done between rainshowers...but the morning spurt of energy has flattened me somewhat, so we'll see. Forecast shows tomorrow should be dry as well, so I'm not too worried.

glad you got your lawn mown, i think cottage chic is much underated when it comes to gardens or just life in general.

i had a friend round today with her SIL for an unofficial viewing, said the usual 'take me as you find me' and though it wasn't perfect i did manage a whiz around. Thank goodness it hadn't got mussed up whilst we were away last week i guess that's a lesson for me to remember to try and keep everything nice and tidy.
  • Evening 'verse.

*crosses fingers and toes for LT's unofficial viewing*

Got the back garden mown, flowers and shrubs trimmed, emptied the compost bin ready to freecycle (thank the Lord it wasn't very full!), emptied yet more pots of annuals or dead other stuff (not really the most green fingered person you've ever met), and put away the rest of the patio set....gardens at front and back now look very tidy for both winter and the inspection.

Spent the last few hours over at a friend's helping her with her uni work...in between fussing and walking her dogs, and fussing her horses (and drinking tea and eating chocolate orange...because it's neither Terry's or Dawn's...). What a great day. Absolutely tuckered out, but in the nicest possible way - how is it that using your brain is always more knackering than physical labour?

Jacket potato (ultimate treat food) is in the oven, and there's a load of washing in the machine....a little bit of knitting this evening, and then to bed methinks.

  • Mornin 'verse

Bit of a busy morning, so I can't stop for long.

Random burst of energy last night saw me doing three loads of washing (house looks like a laundry as every radiator and banister is now covered), early finishing a sort of shawl thing I'm making (another Christmas present), and adding yet more filler to the architrave round the doors that the dog ate.

If I do say so myself, I think the architrave is beginning to look a little more healthy. Need to nip to the local DIY shop for some matt paint (bought gloss originally, but now I've decided they used matt on the woodwork...time will tell!).

Anyway, morning ahead with friends and then an afternoon/evening of cleaning the house as tomorrow is one of the days I offered for viewings...

3 full weeks to go....need to knuckle down and get packing... *reminds self not to pack the kettle or the biscuits*

    Have a good 'un
