  • Evening all :hello:

One of my favourites this year is a bit of skills-sharing - I'm teaching a friend to bake cupcakes and I'm hoping (have yet to ask) she'll give me a make-up lesson as she always looks gorgeous, and I'm scared to open a lipstick!

Oh Nora what a lovely idea. I set off into town with a very reluctant Mr Lassy to do some Xmas shopping at lunchtime, but soon got fed up and ended up in Yates's drinking lots of pints of Guinness instead...Epic fail :o

Hmmm, feet up, pint close to hand, Mr Lassy's company (assuming you enjoy it)....sounds like an epic win to me. Some days just aren't made for shopping - they're made for taking some time to just enjoy your life, your OH, and your pint. ;)

The skills swap idea takes some getting used to - for example, a couple of years ago, I spent ages explaining to my Dad that what I really wanted for Christmas was some of his time teaching me to do the basics on the car (change tyres etc). The idea baffled him so much, we went with something else...but bless him if a month later I didn't get a letter with Nora-proof instructions on how to change the tyres on my car! :D

I like the skill swop idea too, but as all my friends and I are flippin awful at remembering to buy and post things in time we tend to stick with an ecard and a nice long phone call when one/both/all of us are !!!!ed.

Most be something about Yates calling to us Nothern girls lately - I went out for a quick drink and a meal with one of my friends the other night - three cocktail pitchers and a bottle of wine later we remembered we needed food and a train home!

Good luck with the LA ours were quite reasonable with us after I threw a major tantrum at them over the phone - and oddly they've not booked any more viewings since despite it still being on the website.

Have you thought about going to one of the make-up concessions in a department store (or a decent sized B00ts) and asking if they can show you how to apply make up and what colours suit you? (it is in their interest after all - they hope you will then come back and spend gazillions of pounds with them :rotfl:)

This is a good plan provided you include one point - select your make-up rep with care ie. one whose look you would be happy to wear yourself!

Love the skills swop idea - have already moved towards 'events' type presents ie. deciding to both do something expensive rather than insisting rather than specifically paying for each other's half, but swopping skills would make it more personal.

Which will be difficult if you don't like the Auton look...

Auton - with faces of plastic. Though the hair in this case isn't going for the "Croydon Facelift" look...

I take it I'm the only person who thinks make-up selling women look unnatural?
