Good morning dear reader :hello:
So this morning has been about house-related red tape - you know the sort of thing: arranging for gas and electric, tv licence, phone line and broadband...
Truth be told, it's the sort of thing I hate doing - made more difficult by the Jubilee weekend and bank holidays which have been getting in the way of getting all sorts of things done (including getting beds delivered and my old furniture liberated from storage!).
But I've been learning during my mse time, so I dutifully checked rates, compared service levels (I'm the sort of person who really needs good service as well as good rates...), remembered to check the 'get out' clause and before launching my application for gas and electric, I even remembered to 'quidco'...pretty proud of myself? Darn tootin'. Feeling all accomplishy? Absobloominlutely.
So imagine my minor (!) concern when my new provider comes back and says 'yes certainly Ms Nora, we'd love to provide you with the basic necessities to enable cooking and light in your home that you move into on Friday - it'll be with you in a month!
Now I'll be giving 'fuels r us' a call to make sure I actually have gas and electric...after all, it's not like they've got to dig in new pipes, but what muppet doesn't think to herself 'hmmm...not sure how the whole power thing works, but wouldn't it be sensible to go with whoever is currently providing and change to your own preferred supplier once you're in'? *slaps head*
And then there's the phone and broadband....I've done my research and while I've not opted for the cheapest deal, I've got what's right for me (and a very good deal in the process). Obviously, phones 'r' us are celebrating over the bank holiday, so no phone or tinternet until afterwards, but that's ok because I've come to expect it....
And then I realised that I've only gone and ordered all that without going through quidco *slaps head again*
I swear, I need a keeper...and possibly a padded cell (though with aircon please!).
I have now retired to the sofa (not mine - keep up, fair reader, that doesn't arrive until a week on Wednesday), with a chocolate orange straight from the fridge. Because *life lesson alert* apparently red-tape trauma trumps 'going off choccie' issues. :rotfl:
Have a good 'un - and stay hydrated!

*delurking* My Eb*y sales have been fine - better than fine I would say. Cant say I have felt the effect of the new charges.
You lurk around here?! No pressure then....;) Thanks for the ebay feedback - can't wait to reunite everything, and then sell it!Lemon_Tree wrote: »good luck Nora with your move, i'm sure it's going to be fab for you.
i visited the site you recomended for buttons and it's fab, i could spend loads on there specially on the sausage dog ribbon, thank goodness it was out of stock otherwise i would have bought some. I'm going to pass the details on to a friend as she can't finish a knitted jacket because the buttons she's seen in the shop are too expensive.
Thanks, Sweetie. Yep, that site is amazing isn't it? Hadn't seen the sausage dog ribbon - but then I do what I can not to look around the site too much, otherwise I'd be bankrupt!!

Hi Nora,
Just a quickie to say that the "old" electric and gas will very likely stay as it is until your bright shiny new company add their very special gas and electric to the house. Apparently energy companies aren't allowed to just "cut off" anymore as I found out when I had lots of issues trying to change energy companies. Particularly if there have been no payment issues.
I think all that will happen is the current occupiers will send their final readings through to the company they are using. You take your initial readings and send those to the current supplier and then just pay from then on, until the new company swoop in as requested.
I hope that alleviates any worry for you. Good luck with the move. If you need any help with that chocolate orange I'm more than willing help out!0 -

Ooo, really? That's what I'd hoped would happen - makes a lot of sense....but then, assuming commonsense amongst utility providers is what often gets me into trouble! :rotfl:
Cheers, MT!0 -

My dentist has just told me off for eating chocolate out of the fridge so ......... snuffles a Thornton's chocolate while Kerri's busy with the chocolate orange, whistling a tune to mask the sound of foil being ripped off.0 -

*ahem* I don't think we'll be listening to your dentist (or mine for that matter) with regards the subject of cold chocolate eating....:D0 -

Oh I know! There are very few chocolate bars that are better out of the fridge, but on the whole the colder the better.0 -
