Any GSD owners out there?

Another GSD owner here
Though my boy Casper isn't "proper" as he's white - sorry, "champagne" (makes him sound a lot more sophisticated than he is! :rotfl:)

He's a lovely dog but he's not really much like any other GSD I've met! Not the sharpest pencil, but he's very lovable.
I also have a GSD cross, Kiki, though you'd never guess it, her looks and traits are mostly Rottie. She's definately the crafty one!
caroline can I ask where you get your marrow bones from, I have just started mine on skinners duck and rice and she gets raw mince and fish as well. She is a terrible eater can go days without eating anything, have been to the vet and he says she is fit and healthy and will eat when hungry.
Have you tried looking for a specifical dog raw food supplier? I know there's Redcastles in Dundee which is probably a bit of a trek from you but maybe you could find some raw feeders halfway who'd be happy to fetch an order in for you to collect once a month or so? I know raw feeders often stick together - I actually order for someone who doesn't fall in the delivery area of our supplier and she collects it from me (we combine it with a dog walk so my two pooches gain a doggy pal from the deal!). Otherwise maybe try BritBarf or similar. Google has brought up a mention of Scottish people getting AMP (bought direct) in the Cumbernauld area, and a mention of ScotPet in Kirkintilloch selling the AMP food in-store. I've heard mentions of Landywoods expanding to Scotland but don't know if they do yet, might be worth an email or call.
Raw feeding is more than just giving raw meat, it's important to get the balance right - it can be a great way to feed when correct but because you're not relying on vitamins and minerals supplemented in commercial foods, you're risking deficiencies by not giving the right balance. That's what I like about these raw food suppliers, they generally sell all the aspects you need, meat, bone and offal. I still supplement with reduced meats from the supermarket and freebie bits from the butcher but only really to provide a bit more of a variety.hartleysjam wrote: »Awwwww.. I think i might switch Pash to Raw, i'm sure she'd prefer, I feed her on biscuits for sensitive tum but at the more have to mix pedigree wit it, I know pedigree isn't brilliant but it's all she'd eat and she'll go days without eating otherwise, she's never been a whiner for food or anything.
Did you/do you have any tips with regards to mouthing/herding behaviour? she'd got out of it and yet she seems to be at it again, when people come to the house she wants to mouth their hands, it's never a bite, but it drives us mad!
Diet can have a huge effect on behaviour, more than you may realise, so getting her off the Pedigree may help. What I'd suggest is teaching an alternative behaviour though, I find dogs learn so much better when you tell them what to do rather than what not to do. You could try redirecting her mouthing to a toy - Kiki had a habit of mouthing at people in play as my younger brother encouraged it when he lived with us for a while but I've taught her to go fetch her nearest tuggy. Now whenever she gets a bit overexcited she still remembers to go fetch her tuggy and rag at that instead of at our arms!
If you don't want to make the jump to raw just yet (I'd suggest do your homework and read up on it lots first), you could try Naturediet - or the cheaper version that PAH stock, Wainwrights. Comes in plastic trays, you can microwave it to make it a bit warmer and smellier, and it's always been a hit with my dogs. Much better ingredients than Pedigree and it's still a complete food, so no worries about not giving her everything she needs. A variety of flavours too - the fish Naturediet is real stinky and has always been an absolute favourite with several dogs (less of a favourite with the household human members who've had to smell it though!)0 -
Thanks caroline unfortunately I am in glasgow, the people at dog training buy theirs from an abbotoir but I am not sure about it as they do contain diseased animals.
Just to bump this up, I heard someone mention a new supplier and when I looked it up, it seems they cover most of Scotland

Thank you - this one Ewa recorded herself... Cortez mum...
He fished it out once, dropped it and then was sent to search for it again and this bit Ewa recorded, the second search.
First time Cortez did not know it was there, second time he knew what to look for.
But no, total surprise at a laptop in the river LOL0 -
Wonder if it was one of those that various Government departments keep losing!!
We had a pack walk on Saturday... 5 shepherds and 2 Spinones! Oakley was the only black on (all the other sheps are white), but he is well and truly in charge!0 -
