    As others have said, any dog can attack for any reason with no warning
    I think the problem is that certain dogs can cause a lot more damage when they do go, and a staff is one of those.
    Ever tried to remove a staff from someones appendage? I have, and there was no way it was letting go. They lock their jaws and stay put.
    I have to attend dog attacks through work and the vast majority are staffs. A good half of these from lovely families with kids who have not trained it to fight and have never had any problems. The dog just went crazy for no obvious reason.
    I personally would not want a potential ticking time bomb in my house

    So no dogs at all then?

    Technically a child is more likely to be killed by one of their parents than by the family dog.

    My poodle could kill a child if the mood took him.

    What with, a killer haircut?

    Seriously, you've made my day :rotfl:.

    Your ignorance is showing. All dogs have strong jaws and sharp teeth, if my poodle bit a child's throat (and yes, he knows that's a vulnerable part, you can tell from the way he play fights with other dogs) then he could kill it.

    However, because he's small and fluffy and cute, children come barrelling over squealing with their arms outstretched and no sense of how to approach a strange dog safely.

    Maybe the Sun and the Daily Mail should start putting pictures like this in their papers as often as they put in the snarling staffy stock picture they love:

    .

    Slightly off topic, but yes if i had kids.
    I guess i've been a bit hardened against them after seeing people's houses looking like abatoirs, and the dog being shot by armed police.
    Obviously this is ridiculuosly rare, but the fact it can happen at all would stop me having a dog with my children.

    I suppose we're all affected by our own experiences, and at least you aren't irrationally prejudiced against particular breeds if you wouldn't have any at all.

    I just hope you aren't one of the people who makes nasty comments to Staffy owners like the poor OP.

    Show me a report from anywhere in the World where a poodle has killed a child?

    Shall I do the same for "Staffies"?

    Funnily enough, less idiots who want to look hard and train their dogs to fight are poodle owners.

    Look, its really simple.

    Idiots want status dogs and fighting dogs.
    One particular breed becomes the standard (It was GSDs not that long ago)
    People breed thousands of them because they see a chance to make money
    More of this breed bite because there are more of them, now mostly owned by idiots
    If you ban the breed, the idiots move onto a new one, Akitas are already looking like the likely candidate.

    Let this particular bone drop.

    Staffy = Staffordshire Bull Terrier
    Yorkie = Yorkshire Terrier
    Westie = West Highland White Terrier
    Scottie = Scottish Terrier
    Sheltie = Shetland Sheepdog
    Beardie = Bearded Collie

    See the pattern?
