HP 2133 Mini-Note not working

Hi

Please help! I have been borrowing my daughter's little laptop (above) that I bought for her a few years ago. My old laptop died and I've just got a new one a few days ago. I went to switch on the hp earlier so I could get the stuff I've been working on off it so I could return it, but it won't start up in any safe mode option, normally or last known good config.

It was fine last time I used it. It's probably just sulking as I've got a shiny new laptop. :D

It originally came with linux but my daughter's partner had xp put on it but this was some time ago and it has been working fine up until now.

Is there anything I can do to get it to start up so that I can get my files off? I haven't lost everything as some of it is backed up but the most recent stuff will take me ages to collate again if it's gone.

thanks in advance

The most infallible way is to use a 2.5 SATA To USB Hard Disk Drive Enclosure Caddy For HDD for the princely amount of £3.19.

After you have retrieved all of your data, you can put your mind to reviving the Netbook.

.....At some point, when the unit is turned on, while the power light will illuminate, there is no other activity and no boot activity. Several owners have been successful in restoring functionality after removing the system board and heating it with a heat gun or "baking it" in an oven for a limited time. A web search for problems with the 2133 returns a large number of links to forums and discussions regarding the problem.

Thanks but if I get this, what do I do with it?

Woah! That sounds scary and beyond what I would feel comfortable doing but I will have a read.

    Thank you

Remove the HDD and place it into the caddy. Then you will have created a portable external hard drive. Plug it into your new laptop , it will appear as a new drive there. You can then enter and navigate to the info you wish to retrieve and save.
Very easy, you will do the whole thing in under fifteen minutes.

That's only if you want to save the Netbook. Retrieving your data is considerably easier.

It says on that Wikipedia article that there is no activity but this one is constantly trying to start up but just can't manage it. Is that classed as activity for baking purposes or not?

I do really want to save the netbook. I would much prefer not to have to buy her a new one. She doesn't use it very much at all now but I would still rather she has it back functioning.

So worry about that after you have retrieved your data.

It is a version with an HDD isn't it? What capacity of HDD?

Ah, okay, I get you now. If applicable, I may do a spot of baking while I'm waiting for delivery.
