Re chilli: I tried making a Jamie Oliver recipe one a couple of weeks ago, which sounds like the sort of thing short_bird describes. I assume the ones in Mexico are tastier, though - the JO one proved rather disappointing, which is a shame as I've still got three tubs of it in the freezer.
You can pep them out when they defrost, a batch at a time maybe, with whatever you feel is lacking?:)
All this talk of chilli is making be rather regret the half leg of lamb we have defrosting now for tomorrow and pasta we are having tonight!0 -
Argh! I have the perfect bread recipe, given to me by Justamum. I can't open it on my computer and I can't find it on here
. Darn it, I can't make bread now. I still have some bread items in MiL's freezer so will pick them up today and do an inventory of what is in her freezer. I'm sure there must be a couple of loaves.
Pumpkin soup for tea tomorrow so need bread for that. Really going to be tired and busy tomorrow as DD starts guides. I'll be able to take her there but will have to shoot straight off then to work
May not have time to catch up on here tomorrow in that case.
WRT: Rats/ mice. Our moggie is terrible! She's only a little puss cat but she catches loads of stuff. DH goes mad saying "They're as big as she is!" Last week she only went and brought in a mouse that was still alive and it hid in one of the drawers in our unit. Flaming cat sat by the cupboard all day! Eventually we found it and got it outside .Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0 -

Good thinking! :T It needs a good dose of savouryness - it's a bit sweet and thin-tasting - maybe crumbling in a small quantity of beef stock cube would help? :think:Back after a very long break!0 -

I use a good spoonful of yeast extract and/or a couple of tablespoons of onion gravy granules.

what error message are you getting when you try to open it?
Errr, none! It just doesn't do anything at all! It's very strange and really quite annoying!
Anyhoo, I've found the recipe and I'm going to cut and paste it over to here so that I can find it tomorrow when I'm looking for it! I did have it written on my kitchen blackboard at one stage but it got wiped off and replaced by a shopping list
Here it is, credit to Justamum
The recipe is use is
500g bread flour (I use 125g wholemeal and the rest white)
1 tsp salt
1 tsp instant yeast
300ml water
Mix the flour, salt and yeast together, then add the water and knead until it starts to feel less sticky (I don't usually add extra flour as the stickiness goes as you knead and adding extra flour makes a drier bread). Leave it to rise in a bowl until it's doubled, then knock back and whap it into the bread tin. When it's just peeping above the top of the tin turn the oven on to 200c. Bake for 40 minutes.
I usually make 4 times this amount at a time though.
Even though I use the instant yeast (Doves Farm orange packet) I do still do the first rising (which strictly speaking you shouldn't need with this yeast) because I do think it gives the bread a nicer texture.
I do like to whizz up a handful of each of oats, sunflower seeds, linseeds and sesame seeds to each 1 kilo of flour. I haven't been able to do this recently though because my coffee grinder broke.
I love this recipe for ease. I just whacked 1.5 k of bread flour in the kenwood chef and let it do it's thang! it may have got corrupted or lost its .doc or .jpg etc.
but as you have found the recipe, that's ok. otherwise would have tried to help you to open it.0 -
Thanks for the tip about using Big Oven to store recipes - I've just signed up and pasted in a few recipes from this thread. Didn't bother doing the ingredients seperately - you just need a title, main ingredient, category and then you can cut and paste the whole thing into the method. It's just for me so Justamum's loaf etc is all I need to find what I want.
Tip of my own, mice seem to enjoy peanut butter if you want another trap bait possibility. I admire your fortitude in living with rats in the attic Mrs Chips - I really could not do that. Apart from being a bit phobic about rats I'd really worry about the wiring! Do they ever venture outside? perhaps you could shoot them with an air gun (after practising to avoid just injuring them of course.) Apparently rats love the smell of new thatch - you have to be really careful about this if you're having new thatch because if they get in and then the wire goes on you are pretty stuffed - so perhaps you could get some Norfolk reed or somthing similar and put a pile near the house to tempt them out?
I know I've missed a lot recently but why is Ceridwen spelling her name differently?
And has anyone heard from Haribo Junkie? I wanted to ask her not to leave but her PM box is still full.
Ooh, and how do you do this ignore thing ? Sounds like an excellent way to aoid unnecessary upset and stress!0 -

Hi Seakay,
Haribo is fine, We chat on the phone at least once a day, and she's just taking some time away from the board at the moment. I do know that she has really appreciated all the messages people have been sending and hopefully she will return sooner rather than later.
