I'm another with hunting cats. Very luckily my cats aren't that interested in birds....there has been the very occasional victim, but they LOVE rodents and they used to like sloworms. I've had a couple of moles and rabbits too. No bells here either...for various reasons. If they were interested in birds I'd certainly consider it though.
The feral cats around here catch lots of pigeons.0 -
Our cats have never caught anything, but they get quite animated watching things that they think they may like to catch. A couple of weeks ago, little cat was looking out of the window and chattering with excitement. We had a look to see what was so interesting...not a bird in sight. We do however live on a flight path for Liverpool airport, and dopey was chattering to an easyjet. She must have thought it was some kind of seagull?0

Our eldest car was always a prolific hunter and whilst we used to put a collar on her she always removed the bell immediately. Having been feral she was exceptional and caught many many pigeons - she was that interested in pigeon hunting she wandered into the church one day and was locked in, she lived inside for a good ten days eating her way through their pigeon population until I managed to get into the tower and recatch her. She is way too old to hunt now and the younger two have never really been that interested.
Its a sad day here as tomorrow eldest cat is making her final journey to the vets, they have discovered she has cancer throughout her organs and some type of leukemia, so there is nothing that we can do but let her go painlessly and peacefully. Telling the kids will be very difficult but obviously more so the boys. DS7 has already had a very bad week and pulled yet another tooth out.0 -
Since i moved into this house 2 months ago the neighbours cat seems to think he lives here. He wandered in on the 1st day and he's been here everyday since. As soon as i open the door in the morning he's in, i've given up trying to get him off the beds because he'll just do it anyway. He's a lovely cat, so friendly and when my neighbours move we'll be heartbroken to see him go.
To thank me for the nice warm beds he's taken to leaving me presents. Thankfully outside the door, i'd freak if he brought them in. The 1st time was a whole mouse and then the next day a headless mouse .

our cats are house cats and hunt feet, scrunched up paper and ribbons! we got them from a friends who couldn't cope anymore an as they'd lived indoors all their lives we weren't going to change that.
they tend to like looking outside but you try and hold one when at the front door and they run and hide under a sofa!! also a good excuse to get rid of JW's!Nonny mouse and Proud!!
Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level then beat you with experience!!

My cat refuses a collar and is a pro hunter - that IS nature! Red tooth and claw and all that! I hate when he gets a robin but more than happy with the rats, mice, pigeons an even a squirrel or 2!People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

I used a piece of brisket last time but the recipe recommends chuck I think. I seared it first then chucked in the slow cooker but can be done on thehob or in the overPeople seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

I hope these cats who are bringing 'gifts' into the house are fitted with bells on their collars. I hate nature being attacked by cats.
OK Rats are an exception, but what if they caught a rare dormous, or our lovely garden birds
We've been through 3 and quite frankly they just dont stay on. Nor did it actually stop her......even with 2 bells on one collar
I find spring the hardest to bear due to all the baby birds. If I catch her in the act she gets brought back inside but sadly shock tends to get the better of themI have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks
