Don't post much but wanted to wish littlecal a very happy birthday

D&DD I don't buy choc chips anymore, I use basics chocolate and chop it into small chip sized pieces, far cheaper than the bags of ready made chips :)

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
    Evening all.

Firstly, and most importantly - happy birthday littlecal! And hugs to Kidcat, D&DD, and anyone else in need today. smiley-hug008.gif

I've had a decent quantity of yellow ball today but haven't really had the opportunity to make the most of it as I've spent the day working an essay for my OU course. I'm finding it really hard going so far so I really hope it gets better from here on in. :(

I finally lost interest about an hour ago and went to switch on my BM to make a loaf of my favourite bread - I call it 'odds and s0ds bread' and it's what I make when I've got too many packets of bread flour open: this time it's a mixture of wholemeal (from AF - they don't only do junk food ;)), rye (which I found hiding at the back of the cupboard - goodness knows how long it's been open :o), stoneground white, and some mixed seeds. That's what I like about o&s bread - it's different every time! :D

I've also got a spicy beef and stout stew / pot roast simmering away in the oven, which is smelling quite wonderful - only another two hours until it's ready.:sad: I acquired the stout as part of beer collection which was a prize in a pub quiz months ago: we divided it up amongst the team and, as usual, I got the stout - none of us like to drink it but I can't bear to see it go to waste so I take it for cooking with. :) (Does anyone else find they take things rather than letting them go to waste and then sort out what to do with them afterwards? I seem to have gained a bit of a reputation for it, somehow. :o)
Back after a very long break!

    Need a whinge :o
Haemorrhaging money today  Had to buy both kids more PJs and DD a pair of slippers. then I had to get DS yet another sweatshirt for school (£12 ) and had to buy DD a school cardigan (£15 :eek::eek:) I mean jeez why does everything require a logo on it  can't get anything in similar colour from local supermarket as it's all been sold out since the start of September. When I was a kid you could wear hand knitted jumpers etc as long as it was in the right colours <rollseyes>
Then DS needs new school shoes and trainers as his others are scruffy beyond belief so cue a further £52 spent. Only saving grace is I had about £40 in paypal account from my p!ss poor eBay sales over last few months so that's taken the sting out things.

Here's hoping tomorrow is a cheaper day

  • Went to M&S today to buy sausages - OH only likes the 93% pork sausages from M& S - and saw a special half price offer was on with some fragrances and all the Royal Jelly range of gifts. Spotted an ideal Xmas prez for SIL priced at £15 and thought "hmmmm £7.50 for that lot's a good buy". Picked up a few other bits and pieces of food, went through the checkout and when I got home checked the receipt again.
They'd only charged me £2.50 for the gift!!! It's all scanned, so I can only assume they programmed it into the til wrongly.
Now, should I take it back on Monday and point out the error, or keep schtum and hope that I'm not struck by lightning?

I assume you are joking about taking it back, but if you're not then just remember they got it wrong not you :D However, if you are struck by lightning I never said that :rotfl:

Quiet day today after yesterday's marathon back bedroom clearout. Bedclothes now drying in my new drying area and not in my living area :T. I did tackle the kitchen and filled the reorganised cupboard under the stairs and got rid of the dish drainer so it all looks much less cluttered and will be easier to clean. Can't think where this houseproudness is coming from! If it's fine tomorrow I'll be off out on a walk and a picnic with pup if I can decide where to go. There are alarming reports of a mystery illness contracted by dogs in some popular walking places I've been to in the past, so we may be off to the seaside to introduce pup to the joys of sand, sea and chips :)

Lizzyb be careful and anyone else with dogs. A number of dogs in a place not too far from here were killed by something mysterious and they died quite quickly. It turned out months later when test results came back that it was some kind of rat poison that is now illegal but someone was using it. They still have not caught the culprit.

:):):):)Hi, can anyone recommend an easy slow cooker recipe book where you don't have to do lots of prep first. I.E. a throw it all in and go to work type of thing. It would help if it had nice pictures and was cheap too. I'm not asking a lot am I? :) Sorry I can't do the little picture thingies for some reason on my computer.

    Thanks Esther x

If you took it back, it is unlikely that they could actually do something about it - if it went through the till at that price, I'm pretty sure their complex systems wouldn't allow them to receive more from you than the receipt said, as it would upset their balances. If your conscience is keeping you awake at night (or thunder is approaching) you could email them explaining what had happened and ask what they advise you to do. You'll probably get, eventually, an email back saying, how lovely of you to tell us, do keep the item with our compliments.

:D Ooooohhhhhh am I sore but am I sore. Needed to get a block and tackle to get me out of bed this morning.

Well, needed one, but didn't have one, so had to roll out gingerly moaning and groaning. Am still hicking a bit.

Yesterday's weather here was beyond fantastic. It would have been a lovely day by September standards and that fact the it was 19th November!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Flawless blue sky all day, uninterrupted Yellow Ball presence, the lightest of light breezes. Glorious. I spent 5 hours on my allotment just loving the weather and would have stayed til dusk but for the fact that I could barely move by that point. Working outside in November in your shirtsleeves (memo to self; wear the trousers as well next time).:rotfl:

I have been excavating horrors of skeins of couch grass, bindweed, horsetail roots and regenerating subterranean lumps of dock roots and mallow roots and gawd-knows-what-gnarly roots. It never ends. A bit I cleared a coupla weeks ago had little blades of grass poking up and when I went back in with the digging fork, they were growing from fragments of couch grass roots which had re-generated.

:D Funniest thing I found was a huge chunk of the top of a leg bone of a cow (I assume it was bovine, was too big to be human and I think dinosaurs are more extinct than that).

 The most interesting thing, other than nails and glass and bits of plastic bags, was a circular disc with a hole, about 2.5 inches across, too heavy for it's size IYSWHIM. Maybe a weight from some scales? My Dad once found what an archaeologist identified as a Roman lead weight, also a disc, which was softer than this as he'd impaled it on a fork's tine. I have added it to the shelf in my lottie shed where I'm keeping the weird stuff.

Had some lovely chats with lottie neighbours whom I'd not seen in a while as everyone who could get out, was out. I'll be up there again in a couple of hours, just want to let the heavy dew dry off a bit - plus need to get enough tea into my system to function.

Littlecal do you have a sore head today....and if not, why not?!;)

I've been into my mini-freezer this morning to get the pack of whoopsied mince I bought a few days ago. The cunning plan is to start a chilli con carne by frying that off tomorrow morning before work, then leave it with the rest of the ingredients in Gollum the Slowcooker whilst I work on Monday. Gollum has been a lazy s0d snoozing in his box under the table and needs an outing.

Oh, the simple joy of walking in the door to a meal which is already cooked...............

One thing I notice about being more OS is that it is making me a lot more organised. To run a storecupboard, get the best buys, to batch cook, these are all excellent life skills. I'm sure it's making me a better person as well as a busier one.

Enough drivel....I need to check some other OS threads. Hope everyone has the Yellow Ball today (not sure about me as we have a misty start thus far) and that the pup loves the beach. It's sooo cute when they bark and run to and fro the waves.
