And as to a small percentage go into care- where do you get that from?
It is a very small percentage:Among older people, the demand for community care increases sharply with age. On the basis of the 2001 Census of the UK population, we estimate that for older people between the ages of 60 and 64 years only about three in every 1000 are living in nursing and residential care
homes. This grows to roughly seven in every 1000 for those aged
between 65 and 74, but after this increases rapidly to around 250 per
1000 for those aged 90 and over. In the higher age ranges especially,
the rates for women considerably exceed those for men.0 -

Where do decency and morals come into it?0 -
I love the way a MSE news story thats turned in to a 'discussion time' type thread
remains on the benefit board, if it was a normal poster it would have been quickly
shifted..0 -

That is your thinking not mine. Never crossed my mind in that way.
No, my parents gave me the best they could afford, including extra tuition to get me top of the class in primary school and a free grammar school education, amongst other things. I jad a second hand stereo, and not much else, but used to play in the shed in the garden and read Enid Blyton to my heart's content.
Then they paid for my wedding in 1986 for 20 grand.
I asked their permission before divorcing my husband after 23 years.
Now it is my turn to put my life on hold and look after THEM. My time will come again, I may be in my 50's by then at least, divorced, but at least I know I have done the right thing.
How the heck does your mind work0 -

What does that have to do with using their money for care?0 -

Absolutely nothing, just replying to the shallow, ignorant comment that I am waiting for my parents to die.0 -

You might want to reread what Oldernotwiser replied to - I had the same interpretation of 'my day will come again'. It comes across that you are more interested in your inheritance than your parents having the best in their older years. That might not be true - but it is what your posts imply.0
