Generally, someone out of work will get all or most of their rent and council tax paid for.
My point still remains, we all need to take the hit and it would not be fair if the only people taking the hit are those who are working.
My point is it is harder to take that hit if you are on benefits.0 -
Note under that wikipedia entry for when stablizers don't work:posh*spice wrote: »It's a good thing. In Economics it's called an Automatic Stabilzer .
It might also make GO realise he should do something about inflation.
There is broad consensus among economists that the automatic stabilizers often exist and function in the short term.
However, the automatic stabilizers model does not incorporate rational expectations or other microfoundations. No part of economics is in the final analysis a mechanistic process and the existence of the stabilizers can easily be overshadowed by other changes to policy, expectations or markets.
We're now getting on for four years of below inflation rises in wages, this is no longer the short-term. The longer we have warped incentives the more important rational expectations become.
Using fiscal policy (e.g. automatic stabilisers) to guide macroeconomic policy is dubious imho. Monetary policy should be the tool to keep nominal GDP up and that's what the Bank of England seem to be doing by having another round of QE."The state is the great fiction by which everybody seeks to live at the expense of everybody else." -- Frederic Bastiat, 1848.0 -

Funny how v. low interest rates and QE are doing very little either but they persist with them.
Whilst there will always be a hardcore of benefit claimants the current rising cost is a sympton not the cause."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

Only problem is in a time when 500 people apply for 20 jobs in Poundland it’s very difficult to get a job.
If only there was some way they could acquire skills that people will happily pay for.
Perhaps some means of studying, or learning a trade. If only that was possible these poor people wouldn't be forced to do nothing whatsoever & live off of other people.
If only.0 -

Some of the people applying were graduates I’m sure there are job vacancies that are difficult to fill because of a lack of suitable applicants but not enough for everyone.0
