Asking for a discount from Orange?

  • In answer to the first question regarding MAC code.
You need your Migration Authority Code (MAC) from your current Internet Service Provider (ISP) so that you can transfer your broadband service from one provider to another. If the contract with your ISP has expired, you can apply for your MAC Code by calling your existing ISP.
I think MAC is only valid for 30 days after issue so you would have to change ISP within that period.

All this is probably only of use to you in increasing your understanding rather than of any practical help as you say you are happy with your current ISP but I hope it is informative in any case.

Yep, informative indeed, and it'll make it look like I'm serious about moving, the plan being to call, go the cancelling route looking for discount and get "talked into" a livebox deal. ;)

    Thanks

And a price reduction, as I bet that you are paying more than you should be!

I was on the £17.99 a month package, called to ask for a MAC code as I had found a cheaper deal elsewhere - they guy asked why I wanted the code etc etc......he offered me the upgrade to the Livebox, Free Calls etc etc.....should have been £27.00 per month but let me have it for the same price as I was paying - and no need to sign up to a contract either
  • Ive just signed up to the livebox deal. The installation CD didn't work, and still won't work. I had to call their tech support, and wait 15 mins to be put through. After 35 mins (on 0870 rate) I got it working. Received an email saying that my talk service now works. Surpise, surprise, it doesn't. Called tech support again, and waited 15 mins, and gave up. I called customer services and asked to cancel my contract because the equipment does not appear to have been beta tested!! It is not fit for purpose. They advised me that I would have to pay a £200 cancellation fee. I asked if there was anything the could do to 'help me'. They said ...erm....no.... call tech support and wait as long as they want you to wait. Their tech support is offshore (India I think).

Oh, I realised that although I have free calls (or at least I should have!!), I have to buy another set of phones. One set for my normal number and one for my new 0845 number (not a local code). Do you want two sets of phones in your house (I now have 2 x base stations and 4 phones)? Do you want an 0845 number?

I tried to complain with an email, but they don't allow email contact. Either 0870 contact or letter.

To say I am very unhappy is an understatement. I would strongly recommend that you go with someone else. Rather than Orange, it should be called lemon.... leaves you with a bitter taste in your mouth.

Seems to be a bit of a rant! You don't have to call technical support on an 0870 rate number. There is a wealth of information provided on their website to help you sort out your problems. Go to their support pages and find the information that you need for yourself and stop ranting.

    a bit rude and unnecessary.

I spent 2 hours on the website and it is actually pretty basic, and difficult to search on. I spent over 9 hours in total trying to get the livebox fully working. The CD did not and does not work. The helpdesk knew this but were still shipping them. The livebox phone service was supposed to work when I got the activation email from them and it didn't until I wrote to them asking them to cancel the contract. 2 days later, it all worked like a dreamboat.

Isn't the website about sharing good and bad experiences? This was a bad one, and I believed it was appropriate to share it. Personally, I would steer clear unless the livebox is something you really need. Orange have crappy customer service and a search on a broadband rating website will support this in spades.

The title of this thread is "Asking for a discount from Orange?" so why not post in a more appropriate place like the Consumer vent board?

There are more troubleshooting and support articles on that website than most other ISP's provide.

Some people just can't see the wood for the trees.
