Asking for a discount from Orange?

Hi Guys, I'm looking for a bit of advice. I signed up for the Wanadoo wireless package over a year ago - this costs £21.99 per month however now they have been taken over by Orange they are doing the same package for £19.99 per month - but if I want to swap to the new deal I have to sign up to another 12 month contract. I don't want to do this because I'm moving house in 6 months and we will be getting Sky so I'm just going to take the Sky broadband package.
I phoned Orange to say that I was thinking of cancelling just to see if they would offer me a better deal but they didn't - has anyone got any tips on how to get a better deal with them without having to take on another contract?

I was on their £17.99 package last year and got two free months when I rang up to get a better deal, I guess it depends on who you get to speak to, were you put through to the cancellations department, as its they who can offer you something.
PS I've subsequently migrated to Sky, but it was a bumpy ride, 3 months with no connection. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
I think now their policies seem to have changed. It seems that if you change package or reduction now- you have to commit to another 12 month contract. They never were like this before, its just recently that this has come in..........Neil0

I called ORANGE today to get my MAC code, was put through to customer services who asked why I wanted to change, when I said cost they offered me my broadband package for £12.99 8 meg and sending out a live box. This is a 6month contract but I was told the cost would remain at £12.99 after the 6 months was up.
Previously my broadband was £17.99 and I have had no problems with the service so I am very pleased to accept this deal.
I am new to this site and after searching though the forum I have saved £60 per year plus free landline calls after making one phone call. FANTASTIC!!:j0 -
Thanks cookieliz!
I just phoned just now and said exactly what you said and got the same deal - £12.99 per month (6 month contract) including wireless - I was on £21.99 per month!! What a saving!! Also the lady I spoke to said that there will be even better "retention deals" available around the middle of February so if I call back after the 15th and say that I'm thinking of moving to Sky they should be able to offer something even better!!0 -

Glad you both got a good deal too. Have you both had an e-mail yet confirming the deal? The person I spoke to said I would be sent an e-mail later the same day but i'm still waiting. I might give them untill the end of the week to get in touch with them.0

hi,
yes i had an email from them about 2 hrs after i phoned. however as of today my speed has still not been upgraded and i haven't seen a livebox on my doorstep!
did they also tell you that if you plug a phone into the livebox you also get free evening and weekend calls to normal landlines (beginning 01 and 02)?0 -
I received a confirmation email today - so that's four days since I called.0

Just phoned them they gave me the 12.99 offer incluuding 8mg + a usb modem (I asked for it because I already have a livebox from them) for 6 months. I told the guy I found a better deal from Tiscalli he offered me also a month free. So I think it seems very good offer.0

I've been with Orange since the dawn of time, or rather since when they were freeserve, Wanadoo, etc, and I am perfectly happy with them.
However, I need to go wireless and hook up three laptops to the internet in the house wirelessly...... So..... A couple of questions.
1. What is a MAC Code?
2. Whilst described as a Wireless Modem, the Livebox is in fact a router too? right?
3. I don't want to share files or printers or whatever, I just need to connect 3 laptops to the internet using the same connection, thus the livebox is all I need? Right?
Ta in advance
