MSE News: Asda to give shoppers £5 money-off voucher

Brilliant, I agree wholeheartedly. Tesco,s vouchers issued for points earned is far superior.I quite like my local Asda - it's clean and bright and the staff are polite and helpful. And they often have very real bargains. But a bargain to me is something actually on the shelf at a low price. I say that as an admission that I'm rarely impressed by vouchers or other jump-through-hoops offers in the first place.
And this voucher offer (like one or two of theirs I've tried before) isn't worth the trip or the effort. I spent £50-odd in Asda the other day (not even knowing about this offer). But £5 is £5 so after reading about this in MSE I entered my receipt details into their website. To be told my purchases did not meet the t&c of the offer. That may well be true - but as a customer I really DON'T CARE!
For heaven's sake Asda - give us a bargain or don't - but make your mind up. Don't announce an offer in large print then use small print to avoid it - you may be legally in the right, but that's a poor excuse if the result is annoyed customers.
In any case, £5 off a total of £80 - and then only by phoning or going online? Not exactly knocking themselves out are they? I can do better than that any day of the week just by careful shopping.

I went to Asda on Wednesday,I did the receipt check on line on Thursday and I got £2.05 plus the £5.00. I don't go every week to Asda but I usually get between £1.50 to £2 back every time. I realised you have to spend £80 in total to get the £5 but where I live we only have a small Co-op and very little choice in Tesco Metro and Express so I enjoy going to Asda even if it is a 20 mile round trip!0

Even though you spend £80, if you put the 2nd x £40 receipt in you get another £5 off so this gets better each week that it is on. I have just printed one with 24th November date on it so I am going to save my smaller vouchers each week to go with it.0 -
I am furious. I went to my local Asda today armed with my £5 off leaflet, receipt and my price match voucher. I went shopping and was enjoying my shop. Got to the till and bagged all my goods. It came to £67 ish and I handed over the leaflet, receipt and price match voucher (for £1 ish). the sales assistant said I should have a voucher for the £5. I looked bamboozled. Where did that come from? It doesn't say anything about that I needed a voucher on the leaflet. All that they could do would be to offer my the £1 ish voucher. I took a deep breathe and walked away leaving my trolley behind. I was furious! I muttered profinitys all the way to the car. I decided to go to Sainsburys instead. The reciept there said that sainsburys was £8 cheaper!
Fingers up to you AsDA!0 -

You have to print the £5 voucher which is on the same page as the other one you printed off.

I didn't see it either but it is on the page where you print the other one off.

The price HP charge for ink, it would probably cost me £5 to print two pages!
This has got to be one of the most cumbersome and complex 'promotions' in years. No doubt some 14 year old marketing 'genius' thinks it was very clever.
Still, Asda aren't very bright. One of the branches near me is the only supermarket in town that charges for parking. For a while I was a fan, as their prices seemed quite keen, but two recent shops have convinced me they play the same swings and roundabouts game as all the others.
Oh, and also, is it just my local branch or is the fresh stock usually a good three or four days closer to its sell-by date than it is in the others? I find that quite puzzling and it's very clearly noticeable.0 -
I was in Asda on Saturday and was given an Asda Price Guarantee leaflet. Tried it yesterday on my shop (you have to check it the next day), and it told me Asda was cheaper, then gave me an instant printable £5 off my next £40 shop. I think that you get the £5 off voucher even if your shop is cheaper at Asda. You can only get it if your initial shop that you are checking is more than £40. As I was doing a big family shop, I split it to get two receipts to check, therefore getting two £5 off vouchers.
There is a time limit on it. I think it was about 19 days on both of mine. You also have to show your original receipt with it when you go to use the voucher.
I am just guessing here, but I wonder if Asda had spent a lot of money on their price guarantee, but not many people were using it because it only paid out if they were 10% more expensive. I had only used it once before, and didn't think it was worth it unlike the old Tesco price checker. Maybe, this is their promotion to get people to use it before Christmas.
You need to check your shopping between 17th October and 13th November 2011.
Best bit is that you can print it off immediately, to use right away. I did search here and couldn't find anything about it. Hope it helps people.

(Sorry, don't know how to do the link thing) Apologies if I have got anything wrong.0 -
This has been running since 17th and requires initial spend over £40 and then get coupon for £5 off a £40 spend. I have got some of my Christmas goodies this way. X
