Co-op asking for ID

Hi
I'm not going to have a massive rant, but just vent my slight annoyance with the CO-OP.
Today I popped in for a few groceries and two lucky dips for tonight's lottery. The very polite woman behind the counter asked me for ID. Being 23, I was shocked that she thought I was under 16 or even anywhere near that age.
I'm in favour of this challenge 21 policy that most retailers are taking part in (mainly for the purpose of underage drinking), but asking for asking sake is such a waste of time. I quite clearly look over 16 years of age....just for the record, I never get asked for ID for anything, including buying alcohol.
Rant over.

Where I work, the 21 Policy is only if you look under 21, but generally it's quite easy to judge if you're under 16. We only ask for ID if there are serious doubts (as most of our customers are locals and we know who's over 16/18 etc)."Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, But beautiful old people are works of art."

I would be delighted if anyone thought i was under 16, think youself lucky you look so young!0

Also got to look at it from the cashiers point of veiw - I can't remember the exact ammount, but I do remember it is a big fine if you are caught selling things to people younger than 16/180

I would be kissing the cashier if she asked me for my ID! ...lol.. would probably get arrested for that though!

I alwaye joke when i buy age-restricted goods-"its ok i am over 18"-sometimes they laugh nervously thinking i am some kind of nutter,as I am 40 something.Just be happy you look youthful.0

i got served today by this lady who serves me nearly everyday, i bought a bottle of whisky and i got asked for ID! even though i buy alcohol at the shop quite often!0

you should worry. the plumber referred to oh as my 'dad'. Maybe it was something to do with the fact that at the time he was in a large hole digging down to the sewage pipe and up to his armpits in brown stuff! Had to laugh, though.:rotfl:0

I still get asked for for id in bars and i'm 25. At first I was a bit annoyed, but I know they are just doing their job
but I mean a lottery ticket
what did you say in response by the way?0 -

I think the police are doing a lot of undecover test purchasing, and that is why several stores are asking for ID more often.0 -
I asked her what age I had to be to buy the tickets...as I had in the back of my mind that it's 16, to which she agreed. I even asked the woman behind me if I look under 16 and she said no (i was beginning to get a complex).
Mind you, I don't want to put the woman behind the counter down, as she was very polite about it and she explained that all staff had been briefed to be extra vigilant.
Never mind, let's put this down to my youthfull complexion (I do moisturise every day), but I do think a common sense approach would have worked better in this case.
Carry your ID!....you never know when you might need it!
