To get the blackberry messenger and use the apps you do need a blackberry plane

A friend of mine has a blackberry 9900 on t-mobile and he uses Facebook, rss feeds a fair bit which also needs a blackberry data plan on top of the original data plan he has already.
So for your daughter to make full use of her phone then she'll need the additional blackberry plan.
I believe this is because they route more than just BBM through their servers from what I was told.0
