Im not sure i posted on here yesterday and mentioned that iv been on IS for 4 months and they said that the IS will stop next year. Can you only claim IS for 1 year??
  • As of January (I think) IS will be stopping for lone parents with youngest child aged 5 or over. That's the only change I am aware of.

The rules are changing for lone parents - I think it's effective as of April next year. Once your child is 4, you have to go onto JSA and look for a job. Have you managed to spend some time sorting your finances?

Lol, 2 different answers there, but I'm sure you get the picture. I know you're looking for work anyway, so it shouldn't affect you to much. Well done you on getting sorted, that's a big achievement. Budgeting sucks, but it's necessary. Have you got a lone parent advisor? I'm seeing mine on Weds to crunch some figures to help prepare me for my new job. I'm lucky as she's really nice and very helpful - might be worth you arranging some time with one also :)

You can ring up and arrange it yourself, you don't need to wait for them. I went onto IS on the Tuesday and had an appointment on the Wednesday with the lone parent advisor because I asked for one. Give them a ring, can't hurt and might help you to get your head around everything :)

just to second that - I found a Lone Parent Advisor very helpful with the numbers and she gave me her direct dial so I don't have to faff about trying to get to her on the phone!
