EDF Really Useless

  • Thankfully they are taking my DD (based on both G&E consumption) every month and billing me correctly for electricity but like I said before they have failed to raise one gas bill in 10 months! Crazy company.

I've been with EDF since moving from British Gas - I moved when they were advertising the 12 month fixed tariff, just after British Gas put their prices up.

I can enter a gas meter reading online, but not electricity. I've phoned once and emailed once, the email only last week. My accounts went live in the middle of August.

Yet I have had no bills at all.

I've said to them in an email that they can effectively whistle for the huge bill that is inevitably coming at some point. Apparently according to them there is a known issue with the electricity. When I phoned I was told it was down to British Gas not agreeing a closing meter reading.

Whatever it is, I can't do any more than prompt them on it. I can't move as I'm tied in for a year (unless I want to waste £70 to get out).

I will just sit it out and wait for them to ask me for £300+ in one go and tell them that as I have had to wait, now, they can wait.

When you say your accounts went live in August, do you mean this year? I only got bills every 3 months from EDF, I had a bill in August and am due one in November. Do you have direct debits set up? Maybe your first bill hasn't been generated yet. The sensible thing to do is keep money saide every month to cover your bill. I don't think telling them to 'whistle' for the money you will owe will work in the long run!

  • Been with EDF about 2 years. Was put on the standard tarriff after being on a web saver. After the price rise i asked if they had a cheaper rate all i got was to go on a fixed rate which costs more. So its nip to uswitch for a case of wine and a better tarrif with a years fix (hope I get the wine)

I transferred to their Fixed Price 2014 in June this year. They have been taking a DD for electricity since July but have so far failed to take any money for gas. I have contacted them several times and I am just told there is a known issue with gas accounts and it should be sorted soon. They also said they cannot send me a bill until the gas account is opened properly as I'm on dual fuel. So basically I've had no bill and haven't paid for gas since June, so I'm going to end up owing them a lot on money when/if they ever sort it out. My recommendation is if you are thinking of switching to them, DON'T!

    Having a nightmare with EDF.
    Switched to EDF last November.
    No introductory bonus.
    No bills.
    So I submit meter readings.
They then change my monthly direct debit... to £15,700!!!!!
I'm switching away as soon as I can.

Suggest you take out a loan to pay the DD!!

But seriously, a call to EDF should sort out the reading. Its best to get your account sorted with EDF before changing supplier.

Yes, but what about the "silent majority" for whom it does work ok?

Switch worked fine for me. Not that I'm being silent about it ;)

    Well worth shouting about. ;)

Is it a random error that your account is working or was it designed that a certain percentage of customers would have a trouble free experience? :D

My electricity switched to them on 21st September and they have taken two direct debits - one on 7th October and another one on 21st October - hope this drops back to one per month from now on.

Gas switched on 29th September and they have taken one direct debit.

So all in all hopefully all will be okay with my account;)

I really would like to get a bill after three months, but after comments on here there is no way I going to put in meter readings in the depth of winter - my direct debits would undoubtedly rocket.

Finally after 3 months EDF have set up a gas direct debit. It took three complaints and a referal to Consumer Direct. I recommend getting them involved. EDF had substantively ignored all previous complaints so I guess they will be hit by Ofgem for incorrect complaint handling. (as per BG and NP). They have paid a £20 compensation claim.

Having acheived this milestone:rotfl:, I thought great.

Not a chance. checking the first bill, it has produced a debit balance. No problem there, but the bill states that:

    1. I need not do anything as I pay by DD. :)

    2. The debit balance will be collected on the 17/11/11.

Also, looking at the bill which is on Fixed 2014 product, they have split off one days consumption for each of gas and electricity.

To make matters more irrelevant they have billed it 'correctly'at exactly the same rate as all the other days. :wall:

EDF you continue to be really useless.:D
