Just what further equalities do they require? Are they prohibited from voting? Are they unfairly imprisoned for having this lifestyle? Do they find themselves unable to secure a job because of their orientation...and who might I ask is to know if they don't keep mentioning it at every turn? Their choice is tolerated in this country which is far more than they may expect in almost every other nation on the planet. I'd say theyve won already....get off the soapbox. What they do in private is none of anybodies business and that is how it should be. Enough is enough with the whole 'woe is me' attitude.
How about not having to keep our lives private without being accused of "flaunting our sexuality in everyone's face". Straight people talk about being straight all the time (by talking about their partners, weddings, kids etc). Its 2011 and I still get yelled at in the street with offensive terms, I've had colleague make offensive comments at work (not in my current job thankfully). Oh and I had to go abroad to get married (not civil partnered- don't get me started on this, they had to create something for gay couples rather than just treating us as equals and allowing us to marry).
You are entitled to your opinion, as I am mine. I don't feel its a woe as me attitude (quite the opposite) its an earnest and passionate desire for change to a more equal and accepting society.0 -
But we've had a look at mortgages and looks like we need a minimum of 10% but the best ones want 20%.
How can anyone on earth afford this, especially for young people?
We're both male, 22 and 25, earning £20k each with proper jobs and good prospects. Good credit histories. I know £20k each isn't much, but we pay £600 rent a month plus all the extra bills and we know we can handle a mortgage.
As others have pointed out, based on your salaries, saving a 20% deposit shouldn't really be a problem unless you are financing a large debt or simply over spending massively somewhere. It's someone else's fault.0 -

I am a heterosexual FWIW, but I completely agree with this. Although I don't know what the OP meant by mentioning his sexuality when it wasn't really relevant. Would be interested in hearing them clarify, in all seriousness, made me spit out my coffee yesterday whether intentionally or not
Anyway, OP might be interested in the 'saving for a mortgage deposit' thread."The only man who makes money from a gold rush is the one selling the shovels..."0 -

The OP mentioning his sexuality wasn't a political statement. He was adding detail, fleshing out his story, adding human interest and personality, being a human being.
I'm reading the original post and now imaging those two creative decorator guys ... Colin and Justin ... trapped in a dull pokehole and frustrated! This makes me enjoy the post and I can sympathise.
If we all posted dry and humourless factual messages all the time there would be less traffic here.
This board is about entertainment as well practical help.
Good point.... And lol about Colin and Justin- I've got the same mental image now too!0 -

But people are always talking about their sexuality on here, it is just that most folks are conditioned not to notice it. Most original posts on this forum start with the poster giving a brief outline of their relationship, normally stuff like: "My husband and I are looking for a house with our 2 children", "My girlfriend wants to move in, what do I need to know?". "I am getting divorced - how can I sell the house?"
Not once have I seen anyone respond to these posts along the lines of" "Please do not flaunt your sexuality here. Why do you have to keep mentioning it at every turn? Your heteronormative lifestyle is of no interest to anyone here and what you do in the privacy of your own home is your own business".
The OP only reluctantly stated that he was gay in his second post (in response to being told that he should move back in with his parents) and is now being told that he is flaunting his sexuality.
Gotta love this forum.0 -

Personally I don't think he was "flaunting" his sexuality. As a gay man myself it just sounded a little odd because I thought to myself that if I was writing that post I wouldn't feel the need to mention being gay, but would have just referred to my partner or my boyfriend. So I just wondered why he mentioned it, that's all. It could simply have been to avoid the embarrassment that can occur when others assume you are straight, which can be uncomfortable- sometimes it's best to mention sexuality up front to avoid this.0
