I'm gay and I hate dramatic feature walls. My flat is all done out in cream and beige. Is there something wrong with me? LOL

I also managed (eventually) to save a 30% deposit! It just takes a lot of saving and sacrifices.

I didn't say all gay people like dramatic feature walls etc I just got that impression from the OP's post! Jeez people really need to get a life seriously.

You don't seem to mention where you live, but gay friendly/enclave places are traditionally expensive, i.e. Brighton. Can you move somewhere cheaper and commute?

I have saved around 50% of my takehome for the past few years and have a six figure deposit now, which wasn't easy but not as difficult as one might imagine.

I'm straight but I have done a feature wall, as well as a floating wall, wallpapered, painted, even painted the window frames black, also I put in new flooring at the various rented places I've lived in. No landlord ever did complain because I added value to their house.

'scuse me, but why should the question of being gay or straight have anything what-so-ever to do with this? What you do in your own home (and rented IS still your home) is no concern of mine or anyone elses. Frankly, I'm sick and tired of this distinction. Homosexuals have campaigned for equality but still mention their orientation at every opportunity. It doesn't matter to me and it shouldn't matter to anyone else either...drop the gay card already, it's getting old.

Many people have tried to give constructive advice rather than meaningless and patronising platitudes such as "anything is possible and I'm sure if you put your mind to it you can get exactly what you want...."

How is it patronising?? Everyone is capable of achieving whatever they want to with some hard work!

LGBT people do not mention it at every opportunity, what a sweeping generalistion.

LGBT people do not have equality in this country and still need to campaign for this.

not sure limited edition toilet seats count though.
  • You're not going to have children to worry about so that £2700 take home is all yours giving you more to save than if you did have children.

gay people have children too. please don't just assume they won't!

No, it's not a generalisation. This subject had nothing to do with the orientation of the OP and yet he still felt the need to mention it as though it made him somehow special or exempt from the normal rules that govern everyone.

Just what further equalities do they require? Are they prohibited from voting? Are they unfairly imprisoned for having this lifestyle? Do they find themselves unable to secure a job because of their orientation...and who might I ask is to know if they don't keep mentioning it at every turn? Their choice is tolerated in this country which is far more than they may expect in almost every other nation on the planet. I'd say theyve won already....get off the soapbox. What they do in private is none of anybodies business and that is how it should be. Enough is enough with the whole 'woe is me' attitude.

  • 'choice' 'lifestyle' - yes lets all be 'tolerated' by heterosexuals. call that equality, right.

I didn't know about 'feature walls' and 'floating walls' until I read this thread. Is this some gay slang?
